Vegetarian ate 1 burger, got hooked and became a butcher

That must have been some burger!

Tammi Jonas, a longtime vegetarian living in Victoria, Australia, had a surprising — but undeniable — craving for a hamburger while pregnant with her third child. Just one prime patty after many meat-free years.

Now, she’s a professional butcher and a pig farmer.

The 49-year-old stopped eating meat when she was 19 — after reading Australian philosopher Peter Singer’s book “Animal Liberation,” published in 1975. She maintained her V-card successfully through two pregnancies, but while carrying her third child, she also became “dangerously anemic.”

After the iron supplements failed, she pondered if protein would be the best way to get healthy for her and her baby.

“I was at work one day and just thought: ‘A burger would fix this,'” Jonas told 10 Daily.

Over time, the reluctant meat-eater gradually worked her way back into an omnivorous lifestyle. Enlarge Image Facebook

“I went back to red meat, so beef and lamb, once a week throughout the pregnancy, and it was some years longer before I had any pork or poultry,” said Jonas, who explains that her beef with meat isn’t about killing animals.

“I never thought it was immoral to take an animal’s life for food,” she said. “I’ve always been comfortable with my place in the food chain, but I thought it was immoral to treat [animals] cruelly, to not allow them to go outside and breathe fresh air and to be confined in crowds in sheds.”

Jonas knew firsthand what went down on farms, having grown up on a cattle ranch in rural Oregon before moving to Australia in the ’90s. So her move back to the land didn’t surprise her.

All's well that ends well as they say.

Former vegetarians are some of the most devoted and well-informed meat-eaters around.

There is no such thing as a vegan/vegetarian.

Why?

Because ALL of them desire a veggie burger that tastes like meat. They’re just pansies that want to claim being a vegetarian as an attention seeking mechanism.

I have never known a vegetarian who didn’t like meat. Not a single one. They love the smell of it cooking, they love the taste, they even like the looks.

I really have never seen indoor cattle ranches here in Oregon. Can't figure this one out.

Anyone who would take Peter Singer serious has a screw loose.

She probably meant how hogs are raised indoors and the writer just mushed it in with her cattle farm comments or assumed she was still yacking about cattle when she already moved to yacking about hog farming.

I went to a leftist BBQ with a friend of mine once in DC, a Jewish woman who despite being a leftist was very pro-Israel and also able to see through a lot of the BS on the left (although she has since been totally brainwashed and no longer reasonable on any subject except Israel).

Anyway, we went to this BBQ and it turned out it was a veggie BBQ (!) and my friend somehow didn’t get the email or didn’t read it and she showed up with about 10 pounds of meat as her “contribution”.

It was all I could do to restrain myself from rolling on the ground laughing my butt off.

The looks on people’s faces.

Priceless.

But now, reading your post, I think you’re right. They were all dying for some of that meat!

“They were all dying for some of that meat!”

Yes, they were. I’ve also never known a veggie person not to eat meat when no one was looking.

A difficult feat.

If the last 2.4 million years was turned into 24 hours of human existence...

We have eaten meat for the last 24 hours

We have eaten wheat/grains for the last 6 minutes

We have eaten processed food for the last 4 seconds

I think it’s easy to see where the real problem is.

Note: I wasn’t there of course to verify this but it is an interesting way to look at the human diet and how it evolved (devolved?).

Reminds me of this scene from Sopranos.

Not the exact thing, but similar.

“They love the smell of it cooking, they love the taste...”

Everyone does, unless maybe you have some psychological or neurological disorder. We’re programmed to like the taste and smell of stuff that has nutrients we need, and meat is loaded with them.

Exactly. “Transgender” and “vegan” are against our instincts.

Thank you. I love that meme - 'tis one of the greatest memes ever.

Btw, pork rinds are a delicious, no-carb crunch alternative to chips and cheese doodles. And they're tastier.

I have no problem with vegans/vegetarians when it comes to diet. Whatever. Your body. Knock yourself out. It’s when they become obnoxious sanctimonious cultists that I can’t handle it. Dagen McDowell irks me quite a bit when she’s above all others because she’s vegan. “Is this pizza with real meat? Is there cheeeeese?” Gimme a break.
