Cory Booker on why Democrats should go bolder on gun control (Yes, please)
Vox ^ | August 16, 2019 | German Lopez and Katherine Kim

Sen. Cory Booker wants Democrats to go bolder on guns — and says they’re playing into the hands of the National Rifle Association and the corporate gun lobby by rejecting bolder ideas.

“For Democrats to play into the hands of the corporate gun lobby, and just letting them define what the realm of possible is, it’s so defeatist to me,” the New Jersey senator told me during an interview this week. “At a time with the levels of carnage in our country, we don’t need people who are defeatist in their thinking about what’s possible.”

Booker, who is running for president, was among the first 2020 candidates to release a comprehensive gun policy platform, as well as a second platform that focused on gun suicides.

For the past two decades, Democrats have by and large stuck to two ideas for gun policy: universal background checks and an assault weapons ban.

Booker’s proposals, however, went further by calling for a licensing requirement to buy and own a gun. Researchers have repeatedly found that gun licensing would do more to push down gun deaths in the US than just universal background checks or an assault weapons ban — studies that Booker pointed to in defending his proposal.

This is a very long but scary interview...scary because it is so hard to believe that someone so confused can be in the US Senate.

The highlight (lowlight?) for me is this line:

When we looked when I was mayor of the city of Newark, about all the shootings that we had — and this wasn’t scientific, but we just did a cursory survey — we could only find one instance — one instance — where a homicide in my city was done with someone who had acquired a gun legally. And that was a terrible case of depression, where someone killed themselves but in the process killed their child. That was a correctional officer. But every other shooting in our city was done with someone who could not legally buy a gun.

To stop this problem means to stop the ease of ability for people who should not have guns getting their hands on guns.

To do that, for me, is very clear. And that’s why my plan isn’t just licensing. It’s everything from, hey, you know what, the ATF will tell you themselves they don’t have the resources to enforce the laws that we have. That means, you know what, do microstamping on casings so when they’re injected, it’s easy for us to actually capture the people that are doing the harm. Hey, you know what? Let’s stop the ease with which guns are transferred from casual sellers to people who have no right to have a gun in the first place.

If he's the nominee Trump will likely destroy him. But we are toast if this profoundly ignorant man becomes President.

Coyote Booker should never have any governmental authority to do more than run a lawnmower.

And when someone sees him running said lawnmower, he should be arrested for human trafficking, tried, convicted, and sent to prison for fifteen to forty years.

There’s a really serious mental disease in the D party today. They promote a losing policy and then when it doesn’t work they triple down on it. Insanity can be defined by this kind of irrationality.

Ok - I think it’s time to go bolder on gun rights and stop kowtowing to the limp wristed libs that are scared of their own shadow.

I want funding so that poor single mothers can get gun training and a gun to help defend themselves.

I want gun training taught in schools again along with rifle clubs.

I want laws strengthened for gun manufacturers to stop frivolous lawsuits by Cory Booker and his pals by trying to make gun manufacturers libel for crimes committed with their products.

It’s time to fight back.

Are you kidding? The only pre-reqs for US Senate (or Congress for that matter) 1. Be soulless. 2. Believe corruption is only a state of mind. 3. Convince morons 1 year out of an election year that you truly are conservative or communist (in the DNC’s case, you have to go full retard commie) 4. Always blame the other guys on why you didn’t bother to keep your promises.

Gory Booger pegs my gaydar. I suspect Gory is more gay than Buttplug. Gory could always ask his imaginary friend and street smart mentor Teabag what he should do.

I find it very scary. It seems that we are having a hard time fighting the disease of liberalism. My answer is also scary. God help us if we get to that. The reckoning is a big storm on the horizon. Some on our side just think that it’s only words by the left. I have no doubt that the left will eventually find the way to make their insanity come to fruition.

They’re also weirdly COMPLETELY stuck on ‘60s and ‘70s issues, as if there hasn’t been another half-century of progress since then. It’s like they feel the need to drag the country back to those years so they can lecture all of us rubes with lines that sound like they’re from an “All in the Family” rerun.

Will Booker be leading the raids on houses to confiscate guns?

Wonderful "reasoning" to build gun control on.

IOW, making MORE laws to make it harder to get a gun won't change a thing because a corrections officer will still have one and the criminals will still continue to ignore the more numerous and restrictive gun laws and procure guns illegally.

I feel sorry for anyone who is injecting casings. As for microstamping and then ejecting brass, that's one of the left's many silly ideas. Five seconds with a file (or just replacing the firing pin) will solve that problem far easier than a Dremel tool will grind off a serial number. It's a completely useless proposal, even if criminals don't use a revolver that keeps their brass.

You can stop gun suicides, but only by turning them into a different and equally successful method of suicide. People take pills, call 9-1-1, and then take more pills if they want attention. People pull the trigger if they want a permanent end to their lives. Take away their guns, and the firearm suicides will jump off a tall building or use some other high-success rate method. The problem is in the person, not in the tool that is used.

Cory never went after the gangbanger drug dealers and Newark remains a sh##hole today as the day he came into office in Newark. Track records don’t lie cory. You and your cohorts are threatened by legal gun owners and your quest for control, gang banger drug dealers and illegal guns are not in your neighborhood so its not your problem and not a threat to you and your friends ultimate desires
