Why Evangelicals Want Trump to Pick Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court
CBN ^

Posted on 06/29/2018 9:52:23 AM PDT by springwater13

The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has conservative Christians excited about a huge opportunity to shift American laws on issues like religious freedom and abortion. President Donald Trump has noted he has a list of 25 names as possible Supreme Court candidates, but there's one name that pro-lifers seem to really love.

CBN's Chief Political Correspondent David Brody says evangelical circles are buzzing about Amy Coney Barrett.

"Many of my sources, evangelical in nature, love her. They believe that she is the one that if they had their dream pick that she would be the one," Brody said on the 700 Club Friday. "Barrett has been very outspoken of her Catholic views and God."

Barrett is a mother of seven children and a devout Catholic. At just 46-years-old, Barrett holds promise for a potential decades-long term on the bench. She once clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, taught law at Notre Dame, and has reported conservative views about protecting religious freedom.

A Barrett nomination could face a very tough fight in the Senate. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) opposed Barrett vehemently during her Senate confirmation battle for US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Feinstein even implemented a religious test, blasting Barrett for her deep Catholic faith, calling it "dogma."

"When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you and that's of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years," Feinstein said.

“Wait for Ruthie the die. That’s the designated “Woman’s seat.””

You’re giving Ruthie too much credit, because “being female” is way, way down her list of “accomplishments!”

A list of potential Supreme Court issues should be drawn up and the candidates asked to elaborate on them.

Does an undoubtedly law-abiding citizen have the right to possess an AR-15?

Can a state ban the sale of AR-15s?

Can a state require semi-automatic gun owners list their weapons and the places where they are stored?

What does the ‘AR’ in AR-15 stand for?

Can a state restrict the amount of ammo an undoubtedly law-abiding citizen owns to 50 rounds?

Can a state restrict health insurance coverage to policies that offer no additional cost abortion coverage?

Can a state mandate insurance policies so that they cost $500/month when there are people in the state that can only afford $400/month?

BIGOTRY You say? In capital letters?

Perhaps you confuse BIGOTRY with biases, preferences, and personal beliefs.

All of which are perfectly natural and normal values.

Completely agree with you.

And this is REALLY going to set off some cannons. I don’t believe that women should be “authority-less.” Man was designed to be the woman’s covering authority, and “liberated” women (deliberately) without men are just strange, designless freaks which spiral into all kinds of error. I’m not saying that incidental alone-ness does this. A father or other male household member can fill that role. I’m saying that as far as being leaders in a moral society, men are at the apex of that role by design.

All that being said, there are horribly leftist men, and relatively conservative women. All else being equal, a man should be selected to lead. If the unconscionable choice between a loony leftist man and a sensible conservative woman were to be my only options, I’d pick the woman.

Okay, flame away.

They did not define “shall not be infringed” either, they wrote it in terms they knew were understandable.
They did not expect US to become stupid.

Please. not a girl. They tend to go “wobbly” and are generally confused about the whole “women’s movement” and “women’s rights” fiasco.

The only other President that had a question was Chester A. Arthur and he went to extremes to destroy any evidence.

More than 15 attempts have been made since the 1970’s to change it.

I find nothing on Barrett and guns, so no on her nomination. We can’t take chances. I would reconsider if she can produce a video of herself shooting an AR-15 at a target with Obozo’s or PIAPS’s face on it.

LOL. I wish women would just go home, raise their kids properly and do the community and religious services they did for two hundred years before Women’s Lib. I know everyone wants a big, beautiful house and car that requires two jobs but sheesh! What a price we pay in debased culture.

“Erick Erickson is an idiot.”

Erick has made mistakes, as we all have.

But I know where he stands.

With Erick on the Court, if you like your guns, you’ll be able to keep your guns.

I don’t have much trust in the legal elite.

Did you see my post 50?

My point about NBC was that over 50 lawsuits, Attorney General challenges, and other legal cases were brought against B. Hussein regarding his standing as a Natural Born Citizen.

They never even made it to trial. No judge or court would (or could) give any legal standing to these challenges.

Natural Born Citizenship is an irrelevant legal concept these days. It was badly worded and misinterpreted back in the 16th Century. And has continued to lose its clarity and meaning ever since.

So she never had a case involving the Second amendment? And she is blamed for that?

A mother of seven is close to my heart since my mom was a mother of seven. I’m sure she would do fine.

You are so correct!
In my experience, women make very weak corporate officers and managers. It’s the huge problem in the U.S., that no one talks about.
I love women, just not in a management/authority position. Leave the policy decisions to rational thinkers, not emotional ones.
Flame on.

Someone stubborn about not changing the constitution would be good. How do you determine that? The only people it’s who you could easily identify as someone who wouldn’t turn is someone like Mark Levin (No, i’m not suggesting him). You can’t get someone too young in my opinion because they need to be tried and tested over time.

Catholics are a fitfully shrinking 20-25% of the population. Jews are what, >10%? Not that it matters per se.

I know she has 7 kids which is a good sign on some fronts but Roe v. Wade isn't going anywhere. OTOH, very likely that immigration WILL come before the court...And we know how that is being spun and which half of the population is feeling very emotional about the situation.

All that aside, I'd much rather that a better known quantity be the pick.
