'When has it ever become legal to shoot someone because they’re pulling off in your car?'

Janique Walker knows the cost of a split second.

Her younger brother, 17-year-old Charles Macklin, was killed while trying to steal a Jeep from a Chicago fire lieutenant on the West Side last August. The lieutenant had left the Jeep running, and Macklin jumped behind the wheel.

The lieutenant ran in front of the Jeep and shouted, “Get out,” according to a police report. When Macklin began pulling away, the lieutenant drew his gun and fired through the open driver’s side window, hitting the teen in the chest.

Macklin’s last words were, “Sorry, bro,” according to the police report. The teen died on the pavement. He did not have a gun on him.

The lieutenant had a concealed carry license. He was not charged and he was not disciplined by the department, according to spokesman Larry Langford.

“That was investigated by us, and we found no violation of any rules,” Langford said. “The police didn’t arrest, the state’s attorney found no reason to charge. There was no wrongdoing as far as the Fire Department is concerned.”

Walker, 20, has organized protests, started a Facebook page and launched a hashtag on Twitter. She says she hasn’t given up hope of getting justice for her brother.

She believes her brother was found guilty by one man with a gun. Walker said her brother should be alive to stand before a judge and take responsibility for his actions.

“When has it ever become legal to shoot someone because they’re pulling off in your car?” she asked. “Even if (Macklin) did that, if he did steal the car. You’ve got insurance

Whether or not there is ever a cause brought against the firefighter, it is nonetheless true that stealing cars is a dangerous thing to do, and might get you shot.

17 years old? Seems to me many, many potential victims were spared by eliminating this threat to humanity and civilized society that otherwise would have continued for at least 30 more years had it gone unchecked.

“’When has it ever become legal to shoot someone because they’re pulling off in your car?’

If it isn’t’t then it should be. Just like horse thieves in the old west.

She says she hasn’t given up hope of getting justice for her brother.

I would say that her brother got the justice he deserved.

According to a police report, the Jeep was parked on the right side of the street and the teen was turning left to pull away from the curb when he was shot. "Vehicle starts to move forward. (The firefighter) moves to the left and draws his concealed firearm and fires one shot through the driver’s window.”

If I'm in front of the car, he turns the car away from me, I MOVE OUT OF THE WAY TO GET A BETTER SHOT, and then shoot him, I'm going to jail.

“I’m sure failing to mention that the thug was trying to murder the lieutenant was simply an oversight on the part of the author...right? “

That’s what we get when THEY own the media...a license to simply LIE about what happens.

He was resisting arrest and attempting to flee.

He has no right to do either

In doing so, he forfeited his right to live

Do the people in this article have any idea how car insurance works? Most older cars don’t even have theft insurance.

“Gee—All of a sudden I’m supposed to feel sorry for a thug thief?”

And of course this was the first time ever that he committed a crime.

It sounds like the leftwing nuts are trying to create an “undocumented thievery” narrative. When my brother had his new van stolen in Phoenix, the police told him that if the van is recovered within three days, the most they could charge the perps with was “joy riding”. His new expensive van was found a couple of days later, completely destroyed and “stripped” on a side street in Phoenix. “Joy riding” my @$$.

RE:”A minor detail missing from the story: The lieutenant fired his weapon at the teen, who was trying to run him over with the vehicle, authorities said. “

I wondered about that but the above description says he shot through the drivers side window (as opposed to the windshield).

When is it ever right for journalists to lie, omit facts, distort what happened, and tell people how to think?

About 9:30 a.m., the 45-year-old lieutenant left his vehicle running in the 1400 block of North Lockwood, when the boy got inside and tried to drive off, according to Chicago Police and Fire Department officials.

The lieutenant fired his weapon at the teen, who was trying to run him over with the vehicle, authorities said.

Yeah, that's a pretty big omission from his sister's story.

Having your car stolen because you parked it with the keys in it and left it running is very irritating, but is not justifiable homicide.

Breaking into your house and getting shot is not justifiable homicide? Grabbing your child and taking off with him/her is not justifiable homicide? Stealing your property is not justifiable homicide? rolling eyes

...Even if (Macklin) did that, if he did steal the car. You’ve got insurance”
There’s just so much going on in that thought...

Not long ago after a teen thug was killed during a home invasion, his sister said to the effect, “How is a boy in the hood going to buy school supplies and clothes?”
