Even if (Macklin) did that, if he did steal the car.

If?

Having your car stolen because you parked it with the keys in it and left it running is very irritating, but is not justifiable homicide.

_____________________________________________________________

If the Law in Illinois says it is not justifiable homicide then the law needs to be changed. It is likely that the shooter got off lucky because he was in government as a firefighter, had it been me I would probably be in jail.

All that being said, the shooter did the community a big favor by getting a thief off the street. It is a shame that the only way to do it is by killing him.

If you can’t do the time you shouldn’t do the crime. He won’t do the crime again. It is a hard lesson, hopefully someone who knew him will learn it.

Let’s just ask that question of police officers, shall we? The law is the law, no double standards, equal treatment under that law for all. Police included.

So, when has it ever become legal to shoot someone because they’re pulling off in your car, Officer?

Nope...they would say if the robber used a gun to break in your house, you should help them pack your stuff into the getaway vehicle. After all, you have insurance, right? /s

Unbelievable.

I think the firefighter moved to “the” left, not to “his” left.

So, left in this context means to the left side of the car, which would be to the firefighter’s right as he faces the car.

Hey, babble-on: Babble-off.

Suppose he may have jumped aside to avoid being run over.

You’ve got insurance

And then at some point the insurance becomes unaffordable.

The question is, do we want more stolen cars or less?

Your home and personal belongings are insured.

So, come on in, take what you want.

The lieutenant ran in front of the Jeep and shouted, “Get out,” according to a police report. When Macklin began pulling away, the lieutenant drew his gun and fired through the open driver’s side window, hitting the teen in the chest.

The lieutenant had a concealed carry license.

One aspect of this story that has not been discussed is that fact that the Fire Lieutenant had a CCW in Chicago Illinois.

My understanding is that is like having a pet unicorn.

So this government employee of fairly high rank is able to get a CCW but the plumber next door to him hasn’t a chance of getting one.

If Joe the plumber neighbor of the fire lieutenant is car jacked he better duck behind a tree and call his insurance agent.

The teen died on the pavement. He did not have a gun on him.

No ... he was a the controls of a multi-thousand pound guided missile ... which he had just stolen and was attempting to use against its rightful owner.

Good riddance. Don't steal cars, don't get shot. Easy.

From the article, the 45 y/o CFD fire lieutenant jumped in front of the vehicle as the thief was turning left to pull away from the curb. It appears the lieutenant moved to his right to avoid being run over and fired into the driver side window. Easy to gainsay, but decisions made in split seconds. Yes, not smart to leave the vehicle running and walk away, but this was ruled justifiable homicide.

The fire lieutenant is not identified, although he evidently lives in the same neighborhood as the deceased perp. Wise, given recent threats against and murder of law enforcement officers. The perpetrator was black; would not be surprised if the lieutenant is also black.

The firefighter moved to the left of the Jeep. What’s so hard to understand?

“If I’m in front of the car, he turns the car away from me, I MOVE OUT OF THE WAY TO GET A BETTER SHOT, and then shoot him, I’m going to jail. “

Ok, you don’t shoot him and he drives by. Then, stops and backs up, killing you before you can get a clean shot.

Police tell perps to ‘show their hands’ and if they don’t, they shoot them. This is because... oh, why bother.

He got his justice, Janique. End of discussion. Try to learn from his mistakes.

Much obliged. I think that’s the only way they match up.

I’ll say it again, this would be a bad shoot for the rest of us. “If you thought your life was in danger, why didn’t you move the other way? Away from where the car was moving? You were in danger, and you kept yourself in danger when escape was available. Guilty.”

Stealing is OK to these folks because it is reparations in their feeble minds. This is how they are raised. What is truly embarrassing is that this newspaper actually wasted space to print this stupidity.

Baltimore County MD just buried a police officer who was purposely run over by a thug in a stolen car.
