KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (CBS/AP) — His home on the rocky coast is former President George H.W. Bush’s happy place, chock full of sea-sprayed memories of boating, golfing, family and friends.

But this summer there’s a different feel as he arrives without his wife of 73 years.

The nation’s 41st president arrived Sunday at Walker’s Point, where he spends his summers, a little over a month after the funeral of his wife, Barbara, in Texas. Residents waving American flags lined the streets in Kennebunkport to welcome Bush to town.

“Flag-Waving Crowds Welcome Former President George H.W. Bush To Maine For The Summer”

How about welcoming the prick to one of his 1,000 foot gun free school zones?

I was a very loyal supporter of W, but I now think of that family as pseudo-commoner elitists. They're happy to support ‘the help’, and genuinely value them as beings, but ultimately they would never want those who don't know the secret handshake and dress code to be part of the country club. I am saddened by that - particularly since I think they put themselves, Jeb, and their sense of decorum before the good of the country.

Think he flew Delta or United up to Maine?
He’s a east coast elitist. Brave patriot who should have stayed out of elected politics. imo

They always were. W was ok and beat Gore - he fought for it even when the Dems tried to steal it - which we must always be grateful for.

I like how things have evolved with Tea Party and clearer distinctions among the factions.

What else would you expect from a populace which imports thousands upon thousands of Somalian savages to be their "neighbors"?

Me too. I was on his protection detail in 1990 as a MSG. Tall man. I never could understand how a smart man with honorable military service couldn’t connect some fundamental dots as to who conservatives are.

The Bush League Republicans have been trying to turn our country into North Mexico since Daddy Bush.

Their control of the party left US with only amnesty candidates to vote for. Intentionally.

Maine hated Bush. It was the only state where he came in 3rd in 1992. He went from about 55% of the vote to about 30% in 4 years.

This is more of a celebration of a part of history. I guess if Hoover or Truman came to town years after leaving office and your parents or grandparents hated him when he was in office, the town might still have used the occasion to have a party.

“Think he flew Delta or United up to Maine?”

Unlike Jimmy Carter, who flies commercial, I’m sure George H.W. Bush flew a private jet. A corporation I worked for in the 1990’s had a couple of corporate jets. Periodically a call would come from Houston with a request from the former president for a ride if one of the jets happened to be going from Houston to a specific location on the planet. Unless the CEO was using the jet it would be sent from the corporate headquarters city with a courier to pick up Mr. Bush. It would fly to the city Mr. Bush wished to go and the courier would deliver a package in that city before returning to the corporate headquarters.

The trip was deductible as a business expense (delivering the package). Mr. Bush got to where he was going. Bush received a favor which he would pay back in the future with a speaking engagement or at some point in the future a favorable word to a foreign leader for some project of the company. Everyone was happy.

No doubt George W. Bush and Barack Obama have similar travel arrangements today.

I don’t care much for the Bushes anymore, but I’m sure the town feels like it may be his last summer.
A lovely place to be.

Kennebunkport has been the bush’s private summer home forever. The locals all are just devoted serfs, welcoming the master back to his castle.. The rest of the state doesn’t matter.
