This “judge” is a REAL ass wipe, who needs to be permanently flushed down the crapper.

Three co-equal branches of government and yet one branch, judicial, can tell the other two branches what to do or not do. I don’t believe that’s the way it was meant to be.

True. but he was 103 when the article was written.

That’s pretty old to be alive let alone be a Federal Judge.

Those grants were given because state, county, and local law enforcement had higher expenses due to dealing with illegals. If they are not willing to deal with illegals they should not be eligible for the grants and additional federal funding.

It sounds like the feds can no longer withhold federal highway money if states don’t conform to drinking age, speed limits, other federal criteria.

Feds withhold money for various reasons so states will have their laws in line with what the feds want. This ruling will be interesting when it is applied to other things.

He is senile and in his 90’s, appointed by LBJ and has been a real crackpot over the years.

Apparently he is corrupt as well, making judgements slanted toward companies he has stock in. Not good, rotten to the core.

I used to be in the mortgage banking business. We had a saying.

If you owed the bank a thousand bucks and couldn't pay, you were screwed. They had all the leverage.

But if you owed the bank a billion dollars and you couldn't pay, the bank was screwed. You had all the leverage.

There's a simple solution to this.

The federal government has the ultimate leverage here. They have the money that the sanctuary territories want. The sanctuaries have no leverage except this judge's ruling. The feds can withstand whatever some judge throws at them for a while.

Play their own game against them. Tell them their funds will be forthcoming when they start to comply with the federal immigration laws. Tell them you've decided to disobey the judges ruling and not comply with the law either. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

Of course, this fantasy is not legal. But deliberately disobeying the federal immigration laws is not legal either.

The federal government should be able to “punish” cities that break the law. I wish, just once, Trump would say “Go to hell, judge. You’re not the boss of me” and ignore the ruling.

We can only hope that's what's actually happening with these "rulings."

Perhaps Senor Manuel Real from San Pedro should have recused ...

Judge real is not Mexican; he is of Spanish ancestry. (He is, however, the worst judge in Los Angeles.)

It took decades (centuries?) to create the swamp. It’s not going to drain overnight.
>

I call BULLSHIT.

The ONLY reason it would take ‘ages’ to drain is because of the BABY steps taken, if any step at all.

IMO, the whole ‘deregulation’ farce is just that. Govt that EXISTS doesn’t *stay* small.

To drain the swamp takes REMOVING\eliminating dept/agencies/committees/etc.

Only when they DON’T exist can the swamp be drained, not this ‘cut the toenail on Fedzilla and call the job *done*’

Trump COULD write one last EO and have all prior abolished (as is his right). He has no LEGAL capability to zero out budgets.

Any place to blame there’s 2:

- Congress, for not doing its frigging JOB (like this judicial overreach here)
- The electorate for continuing to vote in the same POS that facilitate #1

So the judge just ruled that the feds have to send them money without using it for contractually specific purposes? Wow.

Everyone runs on omnibus spending now?
