Americans are spreading their book consumption across several formats, and the use of audiobooks is rising.
About three-quarters (74%) of Americans have read a book in the past 12 months in any format, a figure that has remained largely unchanged since 2012, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in January. Print books remain the most popular format for reading, with 67% of Americans having read a print book in the past year.
And while shares of print and e-book readers are similar to those from a survey conducted in 2016, there has been a modest but statistically significant increase in the share of Americans who read audiobooks, from 14% to 18%.

The best audiobooks are those which are freely downloadable so that we can all self-educate and learn our history. Fake history is a real problem,(I argue its a bigger problem than fake news) and this is but one solution.

The one thing I’ll say about audio books, is that if you are driving a long distance, it really cuts down on the feeling that the drive will never end.
The stories are enjoyable, and you remain engrossed in the plot and not the miles you’ve driven and still have to drive.
I highly recommend them for this purpose.

Many of them are probably going blind from staring at those tiny phone screens so much. ;-)

I have a lot of history courses and similar from The Teaching Company on CD that we take on our long trips to see grandkids. About every third lecture I refer to the outline to make sure I am. Isualizing place names and people correctly.

I’ve listened to some of the Clancy books on long drives. My former wife and I found them enjoyable and relaxing.

Sounds like a good idea. Nice...
I did understand the auto-correct error in the second to last and last sentences.
Cool...

Thank goodness I’m not considered one of the “behind the times” persons. I survived the “why don’t you have color TV”, “why don’t you have a push button phone”, “why don’t you have cable TV”, “why don’t you have a digital camera”, “why don’t you have a cell phone” and not nearly as bad, “why don’t you have a Kindle”...I want at least 6 books on my table to read in three weeks ready for the next trip to the library. May it never end!!

Oh yes, excellent.
You know, I wouldn’t mind and would in fact enjoy reading books to an individual or a small group.

Dude these are AUDIO books. Besides most use tablets not phones for reading digital books.

Yep I’ve been there too.
Nowadays, I hear, why don’t I have a wde screen TV, why don’t we have a service such as Netflix, why don’t I have satellite radio in the car, why do I still write checks to pay bills..........

I listen while I am on the treadmill. It beats watching TV.
My mind wanders though. I cannot wait to walk outside again.

I’ve started listening to podcasts during my morning run instead of music. I’m starting to greatly prefer it. I haven’t done the audio book thing yet, though.
