Taxpayers subsidize foreign students

And wait until you see where it comes from. “The Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, in which the American government pays American employers to discriminate against American workers has grown rapidly in recent years, and during FY 2017 it used nearly $2 billion swiped from trust funds for the elderly to favor 240,000 alien college grads over an equal number of U.S.-resident grads,” David North writes on the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) blog. “It is hard to believe, but true; employers of foreign students who have a degree from a U.S. institution are given an 8.25 percent tax break if they hire an alien, rather than a U.S. college grad with the same skills, and paid at the same salary, as we described in some detail in a recent posting.”

“When we wrote the prior article, we were working with out-of-date numbers; subsequently we secured estimated FY 2017 data that shows that some 240,000 American workers are adversely impacted by this program (shouldered out of jobs by the subsidized aliens); earlier data set that number at 140,000.”

“The subsidies to hire the foreign alumni are extracted from the Social Security, Medicare, and Unemployment Insurance Program trust funds and were estimated to be in the area of $1.155 billion in that article. It is now clear that in FY 2017 the total subsidies came to something like $1.98 billion, or close to $2 billion.”

“The program, as we noted earlier, has had silent but bipartisan support; it was created by the Bush II administration without any congressional authorization, was subsequently expanded by the Obama administration, and has been tolerated by the Trump administration.”

This should end this week, today. Not another penny ever to a foreign student. Except maybe to pay their departure from the United States.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg of corruption of the OPT program.

Most of these “students” don’t need to be here. For the most part they are not the “best and brightest” from the rest of the world. They are the ones who were able to scrape up enough money to enroll in some struggling fly-by-night college that, in turn, was able to sponsor the visa for them.

The idea is that they get practical work experience which they can then go back and use in their home countries, but few ever do. And they work 40 hour per week jobs AS they are supposedly enrolled full-time at a university. Sometimes on the opposite side of the country from where their job is.

If they are taking classes online then they really did not need to come to the US now, did they?

The idea was to lure the best and brightest minds to the US, train them, then employ them so our tech stays ahead of everyone else’s

Not saying I agree with this but is my understanding of the practice.

US companies owning facilities in foreign countries is similar. Exploit good minds and cheap labor while still owning the technology.

Now play the song .... “One World, One Love”

Vote buying, horse trading. It gets slipped in as a condition for a vote on something else.

I know, it sucks. The President is correct, need more republicans in Congress.

If U.S. “students” want something to bitch and complain about instead of guns, let them tackle this issue. Might cause them to look at real opportunities.

Yeah, we have been doing that. The left is obsessed with taking money from those who produce, and giving it to those who take money and vote democrat.

You know I been to 11 different countries such as the UAE, Kuwait and Japan, and the one thing I noticed being in those places is that they put their own countrymen and women first everyone else second, why is it the US for some reason does not do that, we do not care for our countrymen and women anymore in fact I say we despise them and sell them out for foreigners.

I became aware of this OPT stuff recently. In California, the Chinese community has managed to start up some companies that hire only foreign students under the OPT program. They justify it with a need for Chinese language as a requirement for the job.

The hope, by the student, is that the year or so they get in the US will be time to land a husband or wife who is a citizen, or to establish their skills so clearly that a $9000 H1B visa will be secured for them within that or some other company.

The big problem is the company that hires them greatly underpays them, and then with that lower labor cost it can defeat US companies for various contracts.

They don’t shut it down because it is a virtual money-minting machine for higher education.

Without it college tuitions would spike even faster, and many institutions would go out of business.

Until a majority of Americans comes to realize that the latter NEEDS to happen, they won’t kill this program.
