U.S. military support for Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are led by the Kurdish YPG militia, have left Turkey furious. Officials have even warned that Turkish troops are ready to cross into neighboring Syria... Erdogan has also warned of an imminent incursion into Kurdish-controlled Afrin in northwest Syria... With around one-fifth of Turkeys population identifying as Kurdish, Turkey views the PKK and moves toward Kurdish independence regionally as an existential threat... "The U.S. is directly providing arms to a group ... whose ultimate ambition is not defeating ISIS," said Ziya Meral, a Turkey analyst at the Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research, a new British army think tank. "This group's ultimate ambition is creating an independent Kurdistan." ...Meral said that mistakes committed by the Turkish state in crushing the movement and trying to force the minority to assimilate have resulted in deep grievances among many Kurds.

Kid in 2050 AD: "What are Turks, dad?"
We should really piss off Turkey and formally acknowledge the Kurds and Kurdish Independence
Ezekiel 38 coalition is almost complete.
Thanks cranked. I'm surprised (not) that San Fran Nan completely lost interest in the Armenian genocide after Obama was sworn in, and will be surprised (not) if she starts bugging out about a free and independent Kurdistan.
Once Erdogan started courting the Iranians and Russia, they no longer showed any commitment to NATO. His only aim is to reestablish a caliphate with him as the head.
Iran, Turkey, and Iraq cooperate in keeping what at one time was Kurdistan split among the three countries. Yet the Kurds are the one strong element in the Middle East that is opposed to Sunni and Shiite terrorism.
I was in the sh!t hole of a country in 1982. I thought it was a sh!t hole then I still do, but we should get the troops out of of turkey first.
John Hay: No.
Theodore Roosevelt: Has this Raspuli-?
John Hay: Raisuli.
Theodore Roosevelt: Raspuli, Raisuli, whatever - has he made any terms?
John Hay: No.
Theodore Roosevelt: Good - that gives us an excuse!
It was still a shlthole when I left in 2009.

Erdogan is not so stupid as to be unaware that he's pissed off all of Turkey's allies, and is basically dead meat on a stick. Russia has him by the nuts, and everyone there knows it but is polite enough to not bring it up.
His first attempt at building a common market with Iran and Syria (but excluding Iraq, which was in chaos) was pointless and hopeless, as he learned the hard way. Iran took advantage of the relationship and destroyed most of Erdogan's regional policy. And now Iran has a budding Bomb program and more money.
When Assad started dismantling Syria and blaming everyone else (the Hillary of the middle east), the Turks and Iranians were backing different paramilitary groups, but Iran also had troops on the ground to keep its boot on Assad's neck.
Iranian intervention proved both expensive and unpopular at home, and when Lurch came by with an abject surrender by the US for the Iranian mullahcracies war crimes, and a big check, the Russians, uh, rushed in, and the Iranians saw that as a golden opportunity to get the hell out of the quagmire. Now Russia's mired instead, Turkey's paramilitary allies are long gone, and there are four different policies (Turkey's, Russia's, Syria's and Iran's) toward the Kurds.
So, while every square foot of land from the eastern end of the Med to the Persian Gulf is in continuous turmoil with no prospect that it will stop soon, President Trump announces the embassy move, Israel and the US get on the same page regarding Iran (but don't discuss what that is), the new Saudi ruler rounds up the rogue elements who operate their own private foreign policy out of their oil fortunes, and the last of the regional big three, Egypt, is in no shape to threaten beyond its borders.
I wonder if Camp John Hay in the Philippines, was named after him?
Hate to be contrary, but Israel’s been in less danger since Syria disintegrated than it has been in my lifetime. Obviously that could change

And likely will remain a sh!thole from here on out.
From google, not my brain.
John Hay Air Station was established on October 25, 1903 after President Theodore Roosevelt signed an executive order setting aside land in Benguet for a military reservation under the United States Army. The reservation was named after Roosevelt's Secretary of State, John Milton Hay.
Yep, it’s in Baguio City, one of the cooler places. It’s up in the mountains, so is nice. Most people assume the entire Philippines is hot and sticky EVERY day. Such is not the case. There are many areas higher up, that are quite cool and comfortable.
Cool. I hope you got to spend your time there instead of the bad places.
#1. A great photo of what a dangerous “ Three-Headed Snake Looks Like”.
Right now, I am in Davao City. Its hot here, but 20 minutes up into the hills, and its a whole different weather pattern. Air conditioning is not even needed up there.
Well, you be careful there. Philippines might be a hot spot any day now.
