Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that New York state will sue the federal government over the new Republican tax law, but legal experts are skeptical the lawsuit will hold up in court.
Cuomo said New York will challenge a provision of the law that limits how much Americans can deduct from their federal taxes for payments made to state and local governments. Many of the people most affected by that provision live in states run by Democrats, which tend to have higher state and local tax rates.
Cuomo, widely seen as a potential contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, said the provision is “violative of states' rights and the principle of equal protection.”

People, non-DC governments, do not get to _sue_ DC over every law they pass. When DC legislates lawful law, the states/counties/cities have no say over it.
The courts are _not_ the arbitor of every legal matter in USA. USA is done if this trend continues. The courts will have assumed supreme position over the other branches.
Disagreements between executive, legislative, states/counities/cites, must often remain disagreements. Each part of government then operates according to its understanding.
There comes a time (soon) when executive will need to arrest, seize and quash judicial over-reach. Or USA is done for.
However, the legislative body has the most power since it can and must defund operations which it finds unlawful, during its proceedings.
Return to USConstitution or perish.
The problem is the remaining $10,000 deduction.
To be fair across the board, there should be no deduction for state taxes. The blue zoners need to pay their fair share
Treats corporations under the tax law differently than W-2 taxpayers.
We all had access to the same deductions until this law was passed (except the deductions that were not applicable to W-2 filers. such as deducting employee wages, etc.)
This new law takes away deductions from W-2 workers for State and Local Income, property and sales tax (caps it at $10,000).
That’s unequal protection under the law (14th Amendment violation), as the corporations continue to get to deduct these at full value.
The $10,000 figure is arbitrary, local tax deductions are either permissible in their entirety or not permissible, not what some Goldman Sachs mieskeits says so.
The tax “cut” is also temporary for W-2 filers but permanent for corporations.
This law is on shakier constitutional ground than Obamacare.

Former Erie County Exec Joel Giambra (R) is running for NY Governor.
Unfortunately he’s was a traitorous “Republican for Clinton” and casts himself in the mold of Nelson Rockefeller and actually thinks Cuomo Jr. is doing “ok” but doesn’t have his “skills”. Not acceptable.
Even worse the SOB says he might run as a third party if he’s not handed the nomination which as far as he’s concerned is his by rights.
