Cuomo says New York will sue over GOP tax law
Washington Post ^

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that New York state will sue the federal government over the new Republican tax law, but legal experts are skeptical the lawsuit will hold up in court.

Cuomo said New York will challenge a provision of the law that limits how much Americans can deduct from their federal taxes for payments made to state and local governments. Many of the people most affected by that provision live in states run by Democrats, which tend to have higher state and local tax rates.

Cuomo, widely seen as a potential contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, said the provision is “violative of states' rights and the principle of equal protection.”

I was on DU looking at a thread about this earlier today. Even the angry little girls over at DU realize that this is a pointless threat.

LOL. I predicted that the Dems would try to sue. I wouldn’t rule out them finding a sympathetic Federal judge willing to rewrite the Constitution.

Words cannot begin to describe this level of stupidity. It’s a violation of “equal protection” that they decided themselves to tax their citizens more than other states? And it is a state’s “right” to have their citizens get a larger refund on their federal taxes through a deduction that never existed prior to a law being passed allowing for the deduction, which has now been repealed? How do you have a “right” for a statute to exist allowing such a thing?

Mind boggling levels of stupid here.

If doubling the standard deduction isn’t enough to cover the ‘salt’ taxes. It is time to move.

He’s just trying to put his name out there.

I don’t know why Cuomo thinks he has an ice-cube’s chance in hell to become President.

They days when NY picked Presidential candidates is over. NY politicians are now a liability.

NY state lacks standing - they’re not paying the taxes.
But you can bet there is a Democrat judge ready to issue a restraining order on behalf of the Swamp.

"Representative government is an anathema to the Bolsheviks."

Too True!

"...the new Republican tax law"

Last I checked, it is the Tax Law of the United States, duly passed by Congress and signed by the President. But that's OK, WAPO, come election time when everyone is still happy with their lower taxes, employer paid bonuses and robust economy, you can remind everyone that this was the 'fault' of the Republicans & Pres. Trump!

If new yorkers refuse to pay state taxes, eould the state arrest them?

What happened to no person is illegal?

Does that only apply to non-citizens?
