Does Gods view of sex really bring harm to people? Let us ask some simple questions: What would the world be like if everyone followed the biblical plan for sex, engaging in sexual activity in a committed, lifelong relationship with someone of the opposite sex? Would there be more suffering? Or would there be less? Would we have more intact marriages, or more broken homes? Would there be more fatherless homes, or more involved fathers? Would STDs, teen pregnancies, and abortions increase or decrease?
The answers to these questions are obvious.

Marriage based on “love” is a fairly new phenomenon. I am beginning to think the arranged marriage thing has merit.
And the OT teaches the repercussions of that wild sex!
Possibly even deeper than that is the concept of "love" as an emotion. Modern folk believe that love is an emotion in that it is fleeting. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13 all of the Christian virtues of love and in keeping with that list, love is work. It is probably the most rewarding work ever, but it is work nonetheless and in a fallen world, driven by instant gratification, the Christian concept of love is lost in translation.
I agree. I believe love is a decision and an action.
That being said, my first marriage lated 20 years and my second is just coming up on 20 years. They are night and day. My first wife had some very positive qualities, but she became utterly narcissistic over the years. I started out as the most narcissistic of the two, but the roles seemed to reverse at some time in our marriage.
And if we were living a hundred years ago, we’d still be married and I’d have tamed the shrew. But the government does not allow you to take matters into your own hands nowadays, and even lets women destroy their marriages and families for whatever reason they make up. It’s called “no-fault divorce”.
Meanwhile, my current wife and I grow closer together every day. I never knew one could be so “in love” with another person and want so hard to please them, and my wife feels the same. It really is a compatibility thing.
Another aspect may be based on something I believe:
If the husband is Christian but the wife is not, you will usually see both of them in church (if they have children). But if the wife is a Christian and the husband is not, it is fairly common to see only the wife in church.
Seeing how things played out after the breakup of my first marriage, I get the feeling she was just “showing up” back then.
Thanks for posting that link. That is a classic essay and I’ve read it several times. Good stuff.
I don't know how old you are, but I am old and lived through both sides of it. And I can tell you, "it" did not exist more than 50 years ago.
Illicit sex has always existed, but the degree, the types of behaviors, the pervasiveness, and finally the legalization of aberrant behaviors and the use of social media -- these are exponentially more in incidence, greater in percentage of persons participating, more impactful on society and more damaging to our national morale and the development of healthy children and adults. In fact, twenty years ago I did an Ivy graduate thesis researching the social and legal devastation wreaked by this war against communal decency.
The Sexual Revolutionaries didn't invent sex; but they ruined it utterly for generations of Americans.
Are the new testament moral beliefs different than the old testament?
Did God change and become more forgiving? Why would God need to change?
Im expecting great answers from Bible readers cause ive read it but am AS FAR from an expert as there is.

I had to pick my own switch.
My Christian aunt would get so mad she’d take her church high heels off and try to hit my running cousin.
“the sexual revolution that started fifty years ago......
I suggest said revolution existed more than 50 years ago, it just wasnt publicized as it is today. Todays writers think they are onto something new, exciting and taboo so they write about it.”
There’s been pornography since cave man figured out how to carve in rock.
“In light of this post, it seems maybe the Amish are onto something...”
Might as well be a Shaker these days.
“But I think it is a very hard sell to convince women that they would be happier if they settled for significantly less.”
If they would devote their energy to something other than making mens’lives miserable.
“I agree. I believe love is a decision and an action.”

I think you’re thinking of lust. ;)
I told him if he kept kicking my airline seat that I would throw him out of the plane.
Did you happen to notice the rewards they received for that behavior in the Old Testament,
I actually attended a seminar with Dr. Spock where he admitted he had no clue how to raise a child. He based that on his experience trying to raise a step daughter.
Well said. Sixty years ago it was hard for loose women to find a husband, unless it was to the man they were loose with.
