When President Trump took office 10 months ago, the bottom was supposed to drop out of the firearms market. It did not happen.
We have the numbers for the National Instant Background Check System (NICS) for the first eleven months of 2017.
They are on track to be the second highest year on record. It is hard to see how they can miss that mark.
December has been the highest month of the year for eight out of nine years. In two anomalous years, 2013, and 2014, it was the fourth highest and second highest month, respectively. November of 2017 had 2,382,788 NICS checks. It was the second highest November on record. The total number of NICS checks for the year is now 22,649,077.
If there were no NICS checks in December, that would be the third highest year on record.
The second highest year was 2015, with 23,141,970 checks. 2017 only requires 492,893 checks to become the second highest year.
No full month, since the NICS started to maintain records in 1998, has ever been that low. June of 2002 was the lowest month on record. There were only 518,351 checks conducted by NICS in that month. 2017 is on track to have 91 percent of the NICS checks that took place in 2016.
The total NICS checks for 2017 will likely be between 24.5 million and 25 million NICS checks.
Because the ATF is not allowed to release production, import, and export figures for a year after they are collected (to protect proprietary information), we will not know the actual increase to the private stock of firearms for another 14 months. The increase in the private stock is calculated by adding imports to the number of guns manufactured and subtracting

2017 is on track to be the second highest number of NICS background checks in a year, ever.
My name will likely be found in this years NICS checks. I was expecting prices to drop with the supposed lack of demand, just neva hatchy.
I found a need for a Ruger LCP II. It’s so light, so small it can be concealed in so many different ways. The trade-off is it’s only a 380, only 6+1 rounds and not nearly as accurate as a full size pistol. It’s so comfortable to wear you really forget it’s there compared to a full size such as my XD40.
Instead of getting an extra magazine to carry, I’m thinking of getting a second little pistol, something a little bigger, a different brand. Anyone have good suggestions?
If you like the LCP, why not get another?
There is quite a bit to say for ammunition compatibility, holster compatibility, and familiarity with controls.
Well, Christmas was, and probably still is, seen as a pretty good time for buying a firearm that a family member will use... and a fine opportunity for treating ourselves to a little something whether we were "good" or not.
Not a bad idea, be it in the guise of "New York reload," "two is one and one is none," or a modified form of "the man with one gun knows how to use it."
One of the banes of my younger days was going through so many different handguns - that did essentially the same thing - that I never had a lot of extra magazines for any one pistol, yet I ended up with a ridiculous number of magazines and holsters that fit guns I no longer had.
Trump slump?
Reeeeeally?
Not with all the Pro-Pantsuit “RESIST” stickers I’m seeing all over the place.
Whoodya think all the guns are intended to protect us FROM?
My wife had surgery and couldn't rack the slide on her Glock 42, so I traded her my J-Frame temporarily. I normally carry a Glock 26 IWB, but I started pocket carrying her Glock 42 and I've fallen in love with pocket carry.
If she ever takes her G42 back I'm getting a Ruger LCP or LCP II to replace it. It may only be .380, but with today's defensive ammunition, it is a viable round for personal self defense.
Are the libs now arming up? Worried about the “Evil Nazi White-Power Trump Regime”?
My brother-on-law, a rabid-rabid lib, recently purchased a couple of pistols.
I like your idea the best. I need a little more range time with this little guy - if that proves out the advantages you mentioned make having two worthwhile.
There are other advantages too. If I have two identical weapons, the wife will never know I snuck another one in.
I do not like carrying it in the trouser front pocket as it’s too difficult to access, and impossible when sitting such as when driving. I ordered an ankle holster.
For the second one I like the idea of a shoulder holster located between the T-Shirt and outer shirt. This would be the primary, the ankle would be the backup. Both would be easily accessible while sitting.
BTW, I have two 9mm’s, and like you say, same holster, same magazines & ammo.
Perhaps the Bump now is due to the fact
THAT we have some Great Deals out there.
The LCR in .38/.357 is Sweet!
I think the great deals are part of the high sales numbers in 2017. Ammunition prices have dropped quite a bit as well.
.22 ammo is now available in WalMarts for less than 5 cents a round.
I saw some the other day at 4.13 cents a round for bulk 36 grain federal high velocity.
