Trump may get tax cut bill with more generous credits for illegal immigrants
The Washington Times ^ | December 10, 2017 | S.A. Miller

President Trump has been willing to accept almost anything to close the deal on his giant tax cut bill before Christmas, including staying mum about a measure that would allow illegal immigrants to pocket the more generous child tax credit included in the package.

Illegal immigrants have been collecting the payoff from the “refundable” tax credit for years because of an IRS interpretation of how the rule was drafted. The Republican-controlled Congress this fall had a chance to correct that in the tax code overhaul that in the Senate version doubled the child tax credit to $2,000 and expanded eligibility.

“The problem is Americans are consistently in favor of policies that take away the free stuff someone else gets from the government while leaving untouched the free stuff they get from the government. “

And I’m paying for it while not getting sh!@t from the government.

Probably, but at least it’s Americans resenting other Americans.

Most Americans are sick and tired of handouts to people that SHOULDN’T BE HERE.

Of course there are fools on this site that think they are subsidizing me because I live in CA, and they don’t even pay income taxes.

But they damn sure want to make sure I pay more.

The EITC was payable to illegals before this bill. At approximately $1,000 per child.

The earned income tax credit and the child tax credit are two different things.

Until we redefine birthright citizenship, children born here are considered American citizens and are issued a SSN which is required to qualify for a CTC. If their illegal immigrant parents were deported like they're supposed to be, they wouldn't be here earning a living, filling out 1040s, and claiming tax credits.

The only difference between the two is income level.

Other than that they are identical. And payable.

Either as a direct credit to taxes owed, or a check when no taxes are owed.

If one parent is staying home with the kids, why is there a child care tax credit? I don't see where this is better for the middle class and most non-wealthy Seniors than the plan we have now is. I don't itemize, so I get the personal exemption and the standard deduction. It's probably better than the mess that this bill will set up.

When I read that the child tax care credit would be for those making up to $250,000 would be the ones getting the full credit, I cringed. This has become a rich-get-richer tax scheme.

It's not possible to be pure

But it is possible to be principled. They refused to abolish Obamacare, this is a tax break for the wealthy, we don't hear anything about EVerify anymore, and we'll probably not get the wall. Will DACA happen without getting EVerify and not including anyone but the "dreamers" in the deal? I'm thrilled President Trump disintegrated ISIS, but is he going to leave Syria now? Assad was better off before Obama's warmongering; let him put his country back together without our "help". Why is Ivanka still in the WH? Her and Jared's liberal views are toxic. And why aren't there at least some middle-class Deplorables in positions?

I still applaud what President Trump aspired to do. The swamp is murkier than we thought. It's the self-inflicted mistakes that bother me.

the twist is, the children are citizens. Can’t blame Trump for our anchor baby policies, including the one that allows ‘citizen children’ to collect when they don’t even live in the USA. Trump has to work within the parameters of current laws. Don’t like the laws? Bug your congresscritter to change them. Or change him.

child care tax credit?

My mistake. I was talking about the Child Tax Credit, not child care tax deductions.

Re: “It is not possible to be pure.”

Only for Conservative coalitions.

The Democrats achieve political purity all the time...

ObamaCare.

Non-enforcement of immigration laws.

100% Pure Left Supreme Court appointments since 1962.

Close to 100% Leftist Purity in education, government jobs, and every major news organization.

I can list 20 more examples off the top of my head, if you are interested.

Great. First full year in retirement in 2018, and our federal tax bill will go up and illegals benefit from the proposed tax bill. Go ahead Trump, piss retirees off.

You hit the nail right on the head. Can we put your observation down in the annals of FR classics somehow?

Even conservatism can’t really manage to be conservative.

Which is why I frequently get a jaundiced eye even at FR.

Rebuilding what we knew as conservatism can’t take place in a vacuum. It has to start in a spiritual sphere. Which means that far from being relegated to a “Religious” corner, “the stone that the builders rejected” must become the cornerstone. Everything ELSE needs to become a manifestation of faith in Him who came to rebuild from the foundation of the soul upward.

That’s as WE might see it, but again to be equitable, one would have to ask Democrats to rate US. We might be surprised to find that we are seen as a more formidable unity than we would ever expect while we are busy complaining about the weak GOP sister of the day.

It is not possible to be pure. This republic has always been like this. There is a reason lawmaking is compared to making a sausage.

I'm sorry you had to find out this way. I'm sure it is a let down, but making laws is a lot different than living your life on your terms. Appreciate the 75% of what you are getting, instead of nothing, and then move on with your life. Enjoy your family and whatever you do in life.

Remember Trump is one man, who can't pass any laws on his own. Why people thought he could go to DC and order things done is something I never understood. You are correct, I don't think there will be a wall like the Great Wall of China, but the reality is it will be much better than we have now. Trump has done a lot on his own and we are much better off than if Hillary had won. So you need to think on those terms. But never think you will always get what you want from politics. Life isn't that way, so why should politics be any different. Be realistic and happy for what is achieved.

Yeah. The tax increase is bad enough but taking more money from us to give to illegal aliens really pizzes me off. Then they’re planning on DACA amnesty before Christmas. Sounds like the Democrats are still in charge.

And here I am as the Spiritual Guy to remind people that God never issued us any kind of guarantee of a perfect earth; in fact we have been warned of the opposite.

However even in the midst of flaws, the gains are impressive when the right Power is behind them.

The currently still quiet Power behind the presidency is the spiritual support that Donald Trump has been seeking, even being urged on by Mike Pence himself. Trump is the neon sign here. Pence and a gaggle of ministers are busy keeping it plugged in.

In Trump should we trust? No. But in God we most definitely should trust, and if God can get a Democrat playboy like Donald Trump to stand up for more of what’s right than for what’s wrong, we ought to be rejoicing and lifting our hands in praise to the Lord rather than waggling our fingers in blame at what’s still wrong.

Silly. i am talking about passing laws and not how one governs. Non enforcement and purity in education, etc is not lawmaking. You are confused. I am writing about passing laws.

The only reason Obamacare passed is because the Dems had 60 senators at that time. It was filibuster proof. The republicans have only 52 senators. Most bills need 60 votes.

Reagan compromised ALL the time to get part of what he wanted.

Frankly, you are unrealistic. Governing is hard and difficult. Now that you are just discovering that fact of life, you should discover that part of something is better than nothing. Reagan said that all the time and you should learn that, too.

These tax credits look like sleight of hand to me. It’s rebating a tax that has been taken in other ways, even from the illegales. High “corporate taxes” are that kind of tax.

Driving complexity out of the tax system and inviting simplicity in, is a wiser move than getting exercised about who is the latest beneficiary of a moment from the sleight of hand.
