Four Democrats Eyeing Governor's Office (CT)Meet For Public Forum (Unicorns, hate, jealousy)

Voters had their first opportunity Saturday to hear where four of the Democrats running or considering a run for governor in 2018 fall on some of the most pressing issues facing the state.

For two hours, they spoke to a fullauditorium at Fair Haven School on economic inequality, the state’s over-reliance on the financial industry, police and criminal justice reform and sanctuary cities.

The event, dubbed “the People’s Symposium,’’ featured Dan Drew, the Middletown mayor who is running to replace outgoing Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, and three potential candidates who have formed exploratory committees: Dita Bhargava, a former official with the state Democratic party; Jonathan Harris, former mayor of West Hartford; and Joe Ganim, the mayor of Bridgeport.

The four remaining participants vied for the audience’s approval during the wide-ranging forum, hosted by the Working Families Party and a number of other advocacy organizations.

At times, the moderatorsheldthepanelists to only yes or no answers before allowing them to expand, a technique that set Bhargava apart as the only one who would not support raising taxes on the top 3 percent of the population to reduceincomeinequality.

Drew and Harris, said they believe higher taxes for the state’s wealthiest residences is key to lessening poverty in urban areas.

“We can’t treat Greenwich hedge fund managers better than we treat people who work every day for a living,” Drew said, adding that he doubted the rich would flee to other states in the face of new taxes. “It’s a lie that’s been propogated since the beginning of time to preserve the status quo for wealthy people who already do very well.”

But Greenwich resident Bhargava, said higher taxes wasn’t the answer. Instead, she said, Connecticut should diversify its industries, moving into renewable energy and organic farming, to compete with Massachusetts and New York.

I love it when Leftists who have never been in business proclaim what businesses will create significant new employment. Yeah, that will end well. Clearly they weren’t paying attention during the Obama Administration to all the failed Federally subsidized renewable energy boondoggles.

If Democrats think organic farming and renewable energy will solve CT’s problems, let them try it. And yes, the wealthy will flee.

I guess hedge fund managers don’t work...

Wealthy people, like all four candidates.

They should say they’ll be asking farmers to raise unicorns, it would be more realistic than anything else they said.

The Working Family Party is two things: 1) An oxymoron, it should be the 'Gibmedat Family Party' and 2) It makes the Socialist Party look conservative. 😀

Jonathan Harris, the mayor of West Hartford, forgot that some of the rich lives in his town, especially in those mansions on Avon Mountain.

Joe Ganim? He was in jail for fraud when he was mayor of BridgePortAPotty the first time. He is ambitious - the Republican governor (John Rowland) wait to be governor until did went to jail.

Dan Drew, the Middletown mayor, is only got elected because of Leftleyan University (aka Wesleyan University) is in the town. Wesleyan University is not a liberal arts school, but a Liberal School, I think they outlawed College Republicans there). Middletown is a nice town, but it could make Northampton, Mass look conservative. 😀

The kook from Greenwich, I don't know anything about, so I can't comment. However, if she is from Greenwich she must be a rich elite, because 90% of Greenwich is mansions. The 'poor' section is CosCob and the homes there are not cheap.

“higher taxes for the state’s wealthiest residences is key to lessening poverty”
Something is omitted from this equation. That money will be taken from the producers, processed by the state, which takes a portion of it to pay for the process, and given to the non-productive individuals who will then become more unproductive because of the free money.
The productive people will become less productive because more of their money is being stolen, and they will go somewhere else.

This will lead to a bigger gap, which the left will propose to close by raising taxes on the “rich,” an exercise which will fail, which will lead to a bigger gap, which the left will propose to close .....

Repeat until revolution.

Malloy seems to have been an economic disaster for Connecticut, but the Democrats should not be allowed to get away with blaming it all on him. It's a blue state that has had poor economic and tax policy such that companies (e.g. GE and Pfizer) have left Connecticut to go to Massachusetts, of all places.

Not to be picky, but I am not sure how this is an oxymoron. Maybe a contradiction, maybe a misnomer but not an oxymoron.

ox·y·mo·ron:
a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction

and Joe Ganim, the mayor of Bridgeport

As if we need a convicted felon to replace the as-yet unconvicted felon Malloy.

After all, criminals are a major constituency of the Democratic Party. Ganim running for governor just removes any possible doubt.

What I meant is that the WFP is not for Working Families. It is an oxymoronic name, since working Families would not support this Marxist party.... It is the minority party in the city of Hartford...90% of the Democrats run on the Working Families banner, so if the Republican get 100 and the Democrat candidate get 97 and if the Dem is on the WFP line and got 4 votes....the D won...😣
