...Modern day bear apologists tend to forget history that bears are dangerous to man...
And all the way back to prehistory...
I read the instructions on a bear spray container for sale at Walmart. It said that the spray “can” be effective as a bear deterrent. When in bear country, if you carry a handgun it’s best to have one with a 4 somewhere in the caliber.
Stupid bear’s destiny was to become somebody’s nice fireplace rug.
And the cubs? Well, veal is young cow, lamb is young sheep, do you see where I’m going?
;^)
Most of our modern day apologists of all types never knew the history in the first place.
Anyone want to venture a guess where the bears hide ended up?
He should have called the police instead!
You might misunderstand my post...I was referring to the link in marktwain’s post about the guy and girl who got eaten by bears.
I am 100% for using guns on grizzlies.

The “4” may not be as important as you think:

“Todd Wilkinson is an American author and journalist proudly trained in the old school tradition of asking hard questions and pressing for honest answers.”
But he don’t know Jack about bears.
Anyone want to venture a guess where the bears hide ended up?
Eaten by scavengers, very likely the cubs.
Bears are not choosey when needing to put on fat for the winter’s hybernation.
It was a long way out in the back of beyond, and the hide was likely spoiled by the time the investigation was finished.
The cubs were probably still in the neighborhood. It is almost time to den up.
Uh...I don’t recall questioning the wisdom of preferring high powered guns as the best form of bear medicine.
Real question, though: how effective is bear spray on humans? Because I hear it’s illegal to use oven spray or wasp spray in place of pepper spray.
They go on to make a Disney movie about the perils of growing up without a mother to teach them the ways of the wild.
ROTFLMAO, thank you, excellent!
Bear lives matter
Archer Fred Bear, in going after dangerous game with a bow, carried a .44 mag pistol hidden under his jacket. For his films, he had a rifleman standing off screen, just in case.
Would that no agency of the government, at any level, investigate itself or its employees.
Any relation of yours Dain?
“But bear spray MIGHT BE 90% effective in stopping a bear attack.”
A gun may only be 50% effective. My understanding is their CNS must be completely destroyed to get them to instantly keel over. I’ve read where they will run an additional 100 yards or worse yet kill the shooter after their heart was blown out.
My opinion is to shoot first, spray later if it keeps on coming. At least you can reassure yourself you tried everything while being mauled to death.
When in doubt, empty the...belt.
