Once again, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has made it clear he doesnt really think much of Steve Bannon.
Bannon has been talking for a while now about waging war on the GOP establishment and primarying Republican senators who are impeding the Trump agenda.
Dana Perino, filling in for Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, asked McConnell if the antidote to Bannons agitation would be to get serious issues like tax reform done.
McConnell just dismissed Bannon out of hand again:
Let me just say with regard to the element that youre referring to here, theyve been out there for a number of years. They cost us five Senate seats in 2010 and 2012. We would have gotten the majority of senators but for the fact that they were able to nominate people who could not win in November . This is not about personalities. This is about achievement. And in order to make policy, you have to actually win the election. The kind of people that are supported by the element that youd just been referring are specialists in defeating Republican candidates in November. And thats what these inner-party skirmish is about.
Perino brought up Marco Rubio and Pat Toomey as examples of more conservative senators who could emerge from primaries that you maybe wouldnt anticipate.
McConnell said he supported both of them and reiterated, Some of these folks that youve been quoting, as I said, are specialists in nominating people who lose.
Perino broached the issue of McConnells personal unpopularity with the Republicans out in the country, but McConnell downplayed it and said, Im not going to be on the ballot on any of the states, and I dont think the candidates who are running need to take a position on me.
You can watch the full interview above, via Fox.
Bannon did pretty good at helping a guy get nominated who ultimately won the Presidency, even though we all know Mitch was sure (and hoped) he wouldn’t.
No kidding. Bushies suck.
Good, don’t want him paying any attention to what Bannon is doing.
I don’t care what McConnell thinks of Bannon ... but McConnell definitely picked a loser when he picked Luther Strange over Roy Moore.
Like Trump and Moore...
Atta boy Mitch. You’re really tellin’ em now.
If he could speak English, he could have said, Atkins, the witch lady and Angle and he would have been right, but he just kept it generic. Conservatives know they screwed up supporting those 3 idiots but it was years ago.
Trump WON, Mitch...
“Mitch was sure (and hoped) he wouldnt.”
No doubt in my mind that Mitch voted for Hillary.
Like Trump, Yertle?
Oh look, he’s getting cocky. Isn’t that cute?
How’s that Roy Moore thing going? Eh, Mr.McConnell?
Dana Perhaps no is a Bushie....if that tells you anything.
Dana Perino
Stupid auto correct
Yeah, like Moore lost his primary.
I know she’s a bushie. Still like her input. She’s experienced and sharp.
My fear is that Bannon the giant slayer is supporting an Angle type again with Kelly Ward in Arizona.
The Democrat is credentialed and slick.
McConnell is a specialist in nominating people who do nothing once they are elected.
So basically, McConnell refuses to take accountability, and instead blames Bannon for every past present and future failure.
Like Trump?
To be fair, I think Bannon joined after the nomination, right?
