A Georgia woman and her fellow Delta passengers were prevented from singing the National Anthem as crews unloaded the casket of a fallen soldier at Atlantas airport last weekend.
Pamela Dee Gaudry was on a flight toward Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when she learned the body of a fallen soldier 29-year-old Army Staff Sgt. Dusting Wright was on her plane.
Gaudry, the wife of a deceased Army captain, wanted to honor the Special Forces soldier who was among four U.S. troops killed in an attack in Niger on Oct. 4, by singing the National Anthem. She went around the cabin asking each passenger if they would join her in singing for the fallen soldier.
"I thought it would be so amazing if we sang as they were getting off," Gaudry said. "It's a great honor to the boy's parents, wife and perhaps children."
Some people were enthusiastic about singing and said they would join.
As the flight neared its destination, Gaudry says the chief flight attendant came up to her and informed her it was against Deltas policy to sing the National Anthem. The flight attendant said some people on the flight were from other countries and may be offended by them singing the National Anthem. The staff also made an announcement to the cabin, instructing everyone to stay in their seats and remain quiet.
Angered, Gaudry posted a video on Facebook once her plane landed, explaining the incident. Her video has since gone viral, garnering nearly one million views and the attention of Delta.
Gaudry says the airline contacted her about the flight and offered her an apology and explained that the flight attendant had been misinformed it is not company policy to prevent passengers from singing the National Anthem.

That flight attendant should be disciplined, causing such negative reflection on Delta Airlines.
Airline has every right to stop a person from singing on their plane. Happy Birthday, national anthem, He’s a jolly good fellow, etc.
Id like to see them stop this Jarhead from sing The National Anthem for a fallen soldier. I guarantee you whoever tries will be dropped and carted to the nearest emergency room. You can take that one to the bank
She was overwhelmed with the sight of this, and wanted to show her respects their was another thread some years back , and the passengers did break out in a song . I can appreciate the need for Respect also. I said on another thread had the Soldier been my Family I would have been Honored. Everyone reacts differently.
It’s not that a dignified silence is more appropriate. It’s the reason they gave about upsetting other passengers from other countries. People from other countries don’t complain about things like this. If anything they envy being an American citizen. That’s like saying native Americans are upset by the Redskins and the Braves. It’s total bs
The flight attendant should have been fired the same day. I remember the old Delta Airlines from the 60s. They were the best. That has sadly changed.
Their old Convair 880s were fuel guzzling hogs but it was the fastest thing in the air. It was ahead of its time but the engines ate fuel like a drunken sailor but fuel was cheap then. It was the most beautiful 4 engine non fanned to ever fly.
They actually started as Delta Crop Dusting service and flew out of Bernstein Park in Monroe, Louisiana off a grass strip. They then expanded to short haul passenger services in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.
They were a great airline at one time. They embodied what was America back then. Their employees were the most loyal but that has sadly changed. The employees did not change but Delta became a corporate mentality and the employees became union mentality.
Today Southwest Airlines has the mentality of the old and great but sadly gone Delta Airlines. I hope they keep it.
She got her 15 minutes of fame an hour ago.
>> Airline has every right to stop a person from singing on their plane.
The airline may have the authority to arbitrarily suppress behavior, but it certainly doesn’t have “the right” to stop an individual from singing.
Exactly!
Effing assholios
Brainwashed ignorant nation
We need a good purging
Rope and lampsposts
A lot of it started already in Hollywood courtesy Ape Weinstein
I remember the time I landed in Boston on a late United flight in 2009, and the moronic crew insisted on delaying our deplaning in order to announce the eternal late departure of the state's senior senator, Fat Teddy Kennedy.
I was annoyed!
I’ve tried to sing the national anthems, of several other nations when I was in their homeland as a sign of respect
In Muzo Colombia at Sunday bullfight albeit in the company of folks I dared not offend
In São Paulo during World Cup
In a pub on Londons west end
And I placed my hand over my heart same as they did
Why are so many Americans so self loathing
I know why but I can’t say here or I’ll get a time out
But all know which pet groups defame our traditions the most
Wouldn’t it be just great if U.S. citizens and other passengers, if they wished, started the practice of singing “America the Beautiful” or “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee,” every time a passenger jet lands in the U.S.? “Star Spangled Banner” is too difficult a song to sing and finish in the short time available on a plane landing.
These internationalists who spit on Us civilization are only inviting an Allah Akbar to bomb their airplane again. When will they fracking learn?
Flight attendant was successfully brainwashed in school
Were there some muzzies on the flight? other America-haters? screw em! if they don’t like it they can get off at the next stop.
Any Obama-loving traveler who is offended by our Anthem has no business in our country. The freedom-hating thugs who suppress that song remind me of the freedom-hating thugs in Casablanca:
The flight attendant was wrong, but remaining in their seats and maintaining a respectful, prayerful silence as the casket was retrieved from the aircraft are the more appropriate actions.
