Playboy founder Hugh Hefner died Wednesday, aged 91. But his work of mainstreaming porn will likely live onand continue to hurt men and womenfor many years to come.
Playboy helped usher in an era of porn addiction, decreased happiness, and strained relationships between men and women.
Porn did of course exist before Hefner, and the interneta technological innovation Hefner had nothing to do withgreatly accelerated the use of porn.
But what Hefner did was to bring porn out of the shadows, to make it something that could be discussed openly and without shame. Decades before the characters on Friends were cracking jokes about porn use, Hefner planted the seeds by creating Playboy magazine.
This article from ABC News shows how revolutionary Playboy was:

You might want to rethink your position. Offer evidence against the concept I proposed.

Are you saying that the natural state of man is to desire a harem of women and to see them as property? What exactly ARE you saying?

I’m saying that the “right wing man,” as indicated by what I’ve seen on FR for more than a decade, is an advocate of the Playboy Philosophy.

Why do you assume that, based simply on their promotion of pornography on the internet? Promotion of pornography???? Would you like to give us some links?

This is saying we had no choice, we had to follow this persons lifestyle. Does not speak well of us humans. Thought the theory of evolution said as time goes by we become better and better. Or was it survivel of the fitist?
Or was it something else?

It's what men/boys tell each other. It's called esprit d' corps. There is no female analogue. Women prevent each other from achieving too highly.

Liberal Protestant theologian Harvey Cox, in his book ,i>The Secular City</i>, was one of the first to pan Hugh Hefner and Playboy (along with the Miss America pageant) for the objectification of women.

Still, there is an underlying aggression here that you’ve let slip - What’s going on over there to get you that angry at conservative men ?

Are you saying that Hugh Hefner and his oeuvre is what motivates men to defeat other men in battle?

Then I must strenuously disagree with you tax chick. Its been my experience that the so called "right wing man" is the last bastion of the traditional family in America. A true right wing man is faithful and loyal and believes in monogamy and marriage for life, even while society is crumbling around him, thanks to people like Hefner.
Witl all due respect, tax chick, you're way off base on this one.

Hefner is a member of that class of people who should be spoken of—even at death—with nothing but disgust and contempt. Lenin, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, GHWB, the Rapist, GWB, Soetoro, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Joseph Bernardin, Rembert Weakland. The list is long.

You think what men tell each other in internet posts is an accurate portrayal of their values?
Do you know what locker-room humor is?

I’m about as “right wing” as anyone gets and I never could stand Hefner’s schtick. He was leering creep who was good at reeling in the weak-minded.
The only thing Playboy was good for was decorating the walls of our tents in Vietnam.

You think what men tell each other in internet posts is an accurate portrayal of their values?Yes, I do. I think that what people say in internet posts is what they would say in real life if they weren't afraid of the consequences, and that it reflects their deepest values.
Do you know what locker-room humor is?
I have heard the term. As I understand it, it reveals what people really are, as opposed to what they pretend to be in public.

It seems that your first line contradicts your second line. To me, you’re buying Hefner’s life and philosophy.
