Sometimes its appropriate to speak ill of the dead.
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner died Wednesday, aged 91. But his work of mainstreaming porn will likely live onand continue to hurt men and womenfor many years to come.
Playboy helped usher in an era of porn addiction, decreased happiness, and strained relationships between men and women.
Porn did of course exist before Hefner, and the interneta technological innovation Hefner had nothing to do withgreatly accelerated the use of porn.
But what Hefner did was to bring porn out of the shadows, to make it something that could be discussed openly and without shame. Decades before the characters on Friends were cracking jokes about porn use, Hefner planted the seeds by creating Playboy magazine.
This article from ABC News shows how revolutionary Playboy was:

Hefner’s world is the world today’s right wing man wants. Also Moslems. Go figure.
Saw one of the “seven girlfriends” interviewed.
Disgusting.
“Hefners world is the world todays right wing man wants”
Huh ?
Hefner was a piece of filth who is probably resting in a place where the temperature setting is "Deep Fat Fry".
You didn’t find her appealing?
Have you ever read any Free Republic threads? This is the right-wing man’s ideal.
Heffner found a market niche, he didnt create the desire for porn or for men enjoying the bodies of women.
“This is the right-wing mans ideal.”
To be desired by attractive members of the opposite sex is every human’s ideal.
To a man, the visual is near the top of the scale. To the woman, success and power at the top of the scale.
Men want women to stay the same. To be the same woman they met at the bar, at the game, at the range.
Women want a man that they can change, or they will change. So they get tired of the man who is the same man they met at the bar, the game or the range.
To be surrounded by women, as a powerful man ? Sure. The same awesomeness that a woman would feel to have a man who is all things that she craves as well.
This isn’t a right or left thing. Nor is it an ugly thing to be ashamed of. This is how the human reproductive cycle works.
If I correctly understand your post, you’re agreeing with my original post, which stated that Hefner’s world is the right-wing man’s idea.
You're paintin' with an awfully broad brush, there ...
You might want to rethink your position.
“f I correctly understand your post,”
Nope. It’s not a right wing thing or left wing thing. It’s a human thing.
Men like attractive women. And they like it even more if those attractive women like them. Much of porn, modelling and even general photography of women is found in the careful expression and eye contact with the lens.
Men are much better creatures than many think, and I’m pretty sure that you hold men in a pretty low place. I would encourage otherwise. A real man is a thing of beauty that earns respect from everyone in the room.
Excellent post, Celerity. I must concur.
“If I correctly understand your post, youre agreeing with my original post, which stated that Hefners world is the right-wing mans idea”
You are crazy. Hefner was about as liberal democrat as you can get.
If the typical "right wing" man is anything like me he thought that Heffner was the coolest guy alive when he was 17 but eventually came to realize that he was just a particularly successful and persuasive pervert and psychopath.
There are threads here where guys get a little "frisky" posting photos of pretty young women, etc. But I'll bet a bit of change that these guys are,in real life, decent, hard working and respectful of their wives, daughters, etc.
Okay, so you’re saying Hefner’s world is the world every man wants, regardless of his politics. I was mistaken in limiting it, I apologize.
Hefner’s politics aren’t the point. The point I was making was the appeal of his ideas.
Why do you assume that, based simply on their promotion of pornography on the internet?
A lot of man/boy talk is bluster. That’s how we storm beaches and slay dragons.
