The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

What a mess.
I’ve heard about the speed with which recovery is progressing and how fast power is being restored to some areas.
If people had not made ready for the worst case scenario, they might still be trying to pull supplies together instead of already being on the job and getting things back to normal as fast as possible.
I know it was.
Does that mean it was underhyped for them?
During the storm I was busy on the Zello Hurricane Irma channel creating graphics with emergency info to assist the moderators so they could stay engaged on the channel.
They have stuff like that for tornadoes.
It certainly is an option for use in hurricane country.
Yes indeed....but how amazing is it that so very few lost life or were injured....stunning really! I’m in awe!
We found what is possibly the source of our outage--a downed line half a block long one street over. Neighbors said they haven't seen a work crew assessing the damage yet.
Just got our power back in downtown Atlanta. No power for day and a half, longest we’ve ever been without power in the 50 years we’ve lived in Atlanta. Lots of trees came down, taking down wires.
Everyone in hurricane alley is supposed to have a safe room (windowless, center of dwelling) which should contain storm supplies to endure 12-15 hours of high winds. A mattress is considered useful in the event the roof is breached, or to take a nap between squalls.
Hooray! Inland storm damage can be devastating. Glad you are back up and running.
Seems like a reasonable assumption. It appears many of the mobile home parks have a community center. The ones I have seen are concrete block buildings, which look pretty sturdy for an emergency shelter.
Wonderful, NautiNurse! I’m so glad for you. Hope you get power back soon!
Doing a Jeanne-like loop. Question is, where does he go when he comes out of that loop? Models are in disagreement, but it’s too early to put too much credence in any one model.
I sure as hades hope it’s not heading into the gulf to refuel! How crazy would THAT be???
Took another drive this evening. Only one power truck seen in Melbourne and Beachside. There was no improvement from yesterday. Appears FPL focused elsewhere.
I don’t want to have to scroll back through all the posts, and honestly, can’t remember.... can anybody tell me how the Turks & Caicos made out? I have a friend who has not heard from other friends....she is trying to find out info. on if they were rescued...where would they take them? Could they still be there with no power or way to get a message out? Thank you
