The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

Thanks for that graphic. It shows they forecast a Cuba hit as early as Monday. By Wed they had a Cuba miss and a hit just to the west of Miami. By Friday the forecast was a Cuba hit, still uncomfortably close to Miami, but with a Cuba hit the strength is unknowable. By Friday it was all but over.
Has there been any estimate for the center of the state?
I only heard the FPL presser—no other electric companies. Sounded like the last restoration would be Sept 22—and that is the West coast. East coast by end of this weekend.
What they did---found a tree service, gave them the money, and the tree service is in my front yard cutting up the fallen palm tree and two others that are about to topple. I wept with relief and joy.
The storm has brought out the BEST of Floridians. Incredible.
:) Isn’t that nice.
“two good samaritan hulking young men...”
Love stories like this! <3 Thank you for posting.
Ahhhhh...food from home, tea and coffee! Wonderful:)
Hang in there FRiend...

Wow. What a story. I'm tearing up just reading it. :-)

Exactly right. Too bad it's apparently brought out the *worst* of a few FReepers on these Irma threads. Only a few though, fortunately.
Hope you don't have to wait until September 22nd. Just heard on WTIC radio (Hartford, CT) that besides electric utility companies from around the U.S., many Canadian power companies have descended on Florida to help restore power as well.
If you see Hydro-Québec, give 'em a smile and a wave for me. I still tear up when I see Hydro-Québec trucks, remembering how they restored electrical power for us after the horrific New England Ice Storm of December 1973.
HQ helped turn a scary, freezing cold, dark and bleak pre-Christmas season into the happiest Christmas of all for my family and me. :-)
Oh wow! Warms my heart to hear these things. What a relief for you. #FloridaRocks
Had a 12 hour work day, and called my favorite Chinese place to pick up some sesame chicken but line was busy. Drove past and saw door wide open. I went in and there they are, open for business with a generator out back. Cash only! While I was waiting for supper people kept ordering with credit cards but he couldn’t take them of course. I told them, run next door to Publix atm! I “sold” 3 orders so the owner gave me free crab Rangoon :) #FloridaRocks!
The other AMAZING experience was driving in to work with no street or business lights!! Holy cow. My little neighborhood has power, but as soon as I drove away it was completely dark. It was a shock. Drove for six miles before reaching an area where the power was on. Pitch black. Cool!
I’ll send a prayer for your strapping fellas:)
Thank you so much for the link to Sundance’s article!
You have no idea what it means to me that someone else noticed the plight of central Floridians! They desperately need gas, but in order to get that, they need the gas stations to get power, followed quickly by tank trucks of gas to dispense!
Every time I see one mention of the difficulties that the people there are suffering with, I get renewed hope that it will be worked out sooner rather than later.
Loved hearing your experience! Answers to prayers, one at a time!
I want to give you a hug, I’m so thrilled for you!
Your family’s time is coming! There are thousands of electrical workers from across the country working around the clock.

And now Irma’s remnants are heading towards East Texas, the last place that needs them.
Thank you, I realize that help is on the way. I will urge them to not give up or give in to despair.
Thank you.
I’ll look at it.
Hope it dies soon. The pictures and videos on TV tonight were horrible.Crankweatherguy says she will be blocking Jose from coming to the U.S.
