Alabama Senate Primary tonight. Polls close 8PM. Brooks, Strange, Moore (LIVE THREAD)
Decision Desk HQ ^ | August 15, 2017

Posted on 08/15/2017 4:01:37 PM PDT by SMGFan

Race Preview After weeks of ads, mostly on behalf of incumbent Senator Luther Strange, the votes start rolling in tonight after 8pm EDT. Strange faces strong competition from former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has led him in the polling average by about 5-6 points, and from Huntsville Congressman Mo Brooks, who has trailed Strange in the average by a little over the same margin. If polling is correct, Strange and Moore will advance to the September 26th runoff. We anticipate the first results will roll in within thirty minutes of polls closing. We’ll have comparison charts and a county-by-county display above as those numbers roll in.

Come join us here at the Alabama election thread.

Monitoring the results online. Looks like a Moore-Strange run off at the moment.

Is there “history” behind why certain states have runoffs? All seems to be Southern states so that in Democrat runoff the black candidates lost.

I’m not from the area either and I don’t know.

I posted the Slimes link because I’ve been watching it and it’s been reporting a lot more votes than other sources.

“I wish Brooks would’ve dropped out.”

If he had done it before early voting started, it might have pushed Roy over 50%. If Roy doesn’t make it to 50%, he had better come up with a game plan fast to keep McConnell and Barbour from stealing it.

In honor of Alabama, I am listening to Willie’s Roadhouse on Sirius/XM tonight as I monitor the results. Lot’s of Hank Williams/Johnny Cash era country music. I know that Trump has been pushing Strange for some strange reason but I’m rooting for Moore and hoping he prevails in the run-off. We need to be draining the swamp.

I don’t know.

What I understand is all elections are state level. The only federal election is when the electors vote for the president. Each state sets their own election rules.

"John Couvillon‏ @WinWithJMC · 5m5 minutes ago
RESULTS: With 31% in, Moore leads with 48-31% in suburban counties, Luther 37-28% in urban counties, Moore 46-30% in rural counties #ALSEN "

That makes more sense.
Still, I expect better for Roy from the urban districts.

Now I'm thinking if Roy pulls off close to a 10% final lead then the Establishment will be hard pressed to negotiate with him for Strange dropping out. Strange will have no chance in the runoff.
There's not much Roy would be willing to give them though.

Washington Compost? They won’t let me read the article unless I turn my adblocker off.

Regardless of the history and how they were used in the past, I still think they’re a great idea.

The uniparty doesn’t want runoffs. It makes it easier for independent candidates to win.
