This Professor Resigned Rather Than Go to Diversity Training
Paul Griffiths was an esteemed professor at Duke before facing disciplinary action.

You're in your early 60s, and you hold an endowed-chair professorship at Duke University's prestigious divinity school, where your specialty is Catholic theology, and where the subjects of the courses you teach include a range of religious and secular philosophers from Augustine of Hippo to Wittgenstein. You've also written 10 scholarly books as sole author and seven more as co-author or editor. Your endowed chair is the capstone of a distinguished academic career that includes teaching stints at the University of Notre Dame, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
And then you get a mass emailin early February of this yearfrom one of your younger professor-colleagues. It says:

On behalf of the Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Standing Committee, I strongly urge you to participate in the Racial Equity Institute Phase I Training planned for March 4 and 5. We have secured funding from the Provost to provide this training free to our community and we hope that this will be a first step in a longer process of working to ensure that DDS is an institution that is both equitable and anti-racist in its practices and culture.
We recognize that it is a significant commitment of time; we also believe it will have great dividends for our community.
Duke Divinity School will host a Racial Equity Institute Phase I Training on March 4 and 5, 2017, 8:305 pm both days. Participants should plan to attend both full days of training(sic).
This was “Phase 1.” Phases 2 and 3 would no doubt move on to “white privilege,” and then veer off into LGBTQ rights and “Islamophobia.” This is in attempt to purge traditional Christians - and any conservatives - from academia.
Unacceptable. He should have not gone, and then sued their a$$es off when they fired him. There is no freedom in this country.
Whenever possible, we should all refuse to go to diversity training. It is an insult to my intelligence and a waste of company time and money.
I know some people can’t afford to risk their jobs, but those who can and/or have enough power should refuse to attend. Or maybe bring along some counter-training information, like hard facts on who commits the most crimes, who pays the bills and who lives off the bill-payers, etc.
He should have gone. Every day your employer dares you to quit your job. Doesn’t mean he has to buy into it or not challenge what’s taught.
Win/Win for the Left.
Good for him! We all need to push back on this crap.
Duke seems like a sewer of political correctness.
I walked out of one of these meetings declaring “I see no value to this as the Celtic-American’s needs and issues are not going to be discussed”. My boss about died. He was used to my unfiltered opinions but he never dreamed I’d say something like that to a black outside consultant. Nothing happened to me. Keeping people wondering about how tightly wrapped you are is a wonderful thing!
I disagree. I would have quit too. He now has his dignity and principles.
Oh, you “strongly urge” me to attend?
Pass.
If he challenged it, he would be in the same situation.
Once this blows over, Duke’s faculty can go back to falsely accusing male students of rape.
Unless you work for a private company, almost all corporations buy into this trash and you’re stuck going.
I believe that I found the root of the problem.
Duke has become a third rate institution. Sad.
