Dems may oppose the wall, but if GOP wanted it, couldn't they fund it? They don't want it, right?

Sorry for the vanity, but I'm confused about the posts blaming Dems for blocking funding for the wall. The GOP is still in control of Congress, or was there an election that I missed?

you are correct, everything from obamacare to the budget is smoke and mirrors by the ruling class. Both are said to not being able to be repealed or Changed because of Senate Rules, the Senate Rules can be CHANGED TOMORROW by the Majority Party. see Reconciliation and Baseline Budgeting.

Tucker had Cornyn on some time ago grilling him about the wall. It was clear from the interview that he opposed it. He didn’t much care that Tucker told him it was a central issue to his presidential victory.

If a Texas Republican Senator isn’t voting for the wall, Trump is going to have to figure out another way. This myth that it’s just the filibuster standing between us and the wall is exactly that.

Srsly. We have a conservative plurality at best, and I suspect not even that much. I’ve been looking at this like a situation where a President has to deal with an opposed Congress, mostly because that’s what it is.

Wish Trump would find a way to end-run around these douches, but I bet that the moment he did, the house would rediscover the ‘power of the purse’ and some liberal judge would interfere too.

Every T has to be crossed and every I dotted in order to make this work, I think. No wiggle room. And we the voters have to put the screws to Congress.

I find it hard to blame President Trump for putting off this battle until he’s gathered more bargaining chips. And in the meantime, WE had better get the hell to work making OUR voices heard.

You said it.

The problem is that ‘we’ don’t. The Republicans are by and large no longer ‘we.’

I’m looking at this situation more and more like a President dealing with an opposition Congress.

Trump promised many times to get elected to get the $$$ from Mexico not congress, lots of posts here on that

Trump has vowed to force Mexico to pay for the border wall and said Tuesday on MSNBC that the hefty $8 billion price tag “is a tiny fraction of the money that we lose with Mexico” on trade.
“The wall is probably $8 billion, which is a tiny fraction of the money that we lose with Mexico. We lose a tremendous amount of trade deficits. We have a trade deficit with Mexico that is astronomical, much bigger than that. We will get — and I say it also is also part of my plan — Mexico is going to play for the wall,” he said.

I posted this on the other thread running about this subject. It applies here too:

“No, it appears Trump is going to have to wait for the fall to get money for the wall. I am OK with that. This is for the rest of the fiscal year 2017 and Trump needs 60 votes in the Senate to include money for the wall.
Trump will never get 8 votes from the democrats...never.
However, in the fall, if they pass a real to goodness budget, the filibuster rules do not apply and Trump will get the money in the fiscal 2018 budget which starts Oct. 1. Just another 5 months...I am OK with that.”

Exactly right, and bears repeating, which I just did above. So get off your ultimatum insisting hothead raps, you certain politically naive idiots on this thread. Think with your heads, not your “feelings”, just like the Dems do, and for once be politically astute rather than political morons.

NO... Trump is brilliant! He is letting them think they are getting their way. In 2018 when all these obstructionist on the left are booted out of congress he will start the wall...

There are no conservatives in Congress.

Not one.

They are all Communists.

Every. Single. One.

It doesn’t matter who we elect or what we do. It’s all an illusion. The only thing that matters is the second.

“you’re saying there are enough Republican votes to put it in the budget?”

Good grief. There aren’t enough Pubs to gain passage of the bill. 8 Dem votes are needed also, as they must have 60 votes to pass, and there aren’t enough Pub votes to do it alone. Geez. If the Wall is in the bill, no Dems will vote for it. Period. So it won’t pass.

They don’t want it. Laura Ingraham was saying someone she knows was talking with 4 top Republican senators after Trump was elected. She asked them about the wall, they all laughed out loud and assured her it would never get built. If Trump wants it he will have to veto the budget at some point.

On a thread about WWII War Bonds, someone posited the idea to get the money for the Wall by issuing bonds to the public in a similar manner. “Wall bonds” sounds good. I think it would be a brilliant move by President Trump, if he is stymied by Congress, to bypass them and have his administration issue these bonds. Give ‘em a 10-year maturity, paid off with the savings on welfare, etc. (At least post that as a method of repayment.)

I’d gladly buy a couple of hundred dollars worth, even at 0% interest, just to stick my thumb in the eye of the Establishment.

I can just see the howls of outrage as he did a end run around them.

I tweeted him on this suggestion but dunno if anyone reads them.

Even better, offer to let Mexico buy some. :-)

Maybe we ought to take a poll here and see how many would be receptive - I understand some of his staff reads FR, so it might provide an extra nudge.
