DO NOT DESPAIR. THE WALL HAS NOT FALLEN!
VANITY | 4/25/2017 | windhover

Posted on 04/25/2017 1:27:18 PM PDT by windhover

O.K. The Dems. have roared, "No wall", the Repubs. have predictably rolled over on their backs and begged for a tummy rub, and the government will run dry on Friday. Sound familiar? Anyone for a good Hurl?

But hold your fire, I believe, and greatly hope the difference will be Trump, as follows; The GOP, of course, by nature or design will cave and vote a bill without a wall. If Senate concurs Trump will veto. It cannot be overridden.

The Dems. scream and blame Trump. He doesn't give a lusty one, and the Repubs. are safe because they voted for the bill, sans Wall, in the first place. By now the government is out of money and the Demo scream has become a shriek.

Trumps threatens to veto any future bills without the Wall. They know he means it and doesn't give a care. Now the pressure is on the Dems. for holding-up everything for a lousy billion dollars for a Wall this year.

Now in an act of unusual courage the GOP puts the Wall back-in and defies the Demorats to keep the government closed by voting against it. The Ds' lose their nerve for a change, and Trump signs the Bill. The government opens, and disoriented Democrats hold a big meeting, then scurry for their holes.

"Fact is, I see a lot of executive signings but the stuff that really matters just fades before the finish line."

You're right. As for "think incrementally", I've been hearing that BS for the past forty years starting with the GOP slamming down the Regan social agenda because there were "more important things that have broader appeal"

The only incremental thinking that actually works within the DC Bubble is incrementally making sure anything Trump promised doesn't get done. Everything done by executive order can be undone the exact same way and as long as Ryan is the little tin god in charge he's going to make damn sure nothing that can't be undone in a heartbeat gets through Congress.

The US is tossing missiles around, sending carriers around the world, fighting for over a decade in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and meanwhile China is building a solid manufacturing and consumer powerhouse. Oddly enough, China is moving into the same sort of relationship to the US that the US had to the USSR. One nation a manufacturing, innovation, consumer, powerhouse, the other so focused on being a mighty military player that it bankrupts itself.

Based on history, apparently the only thing that the Feds listen to are artillery shells exploding.

There’s no “make them do it” in our government. Remember we went Obie’s entire first term without even debating a budget. Most of the government runs on automatic appropriations and doesn’t an approved budget anymore. The parts they “shutdown” are really just a show, and they don’t have to make it so anybody even notices the government has “shutdown”. So Congress can sit pretty in the knowledge that if Trump doesn’t sign a budget it doesn’t matter. He simply has no power in this, any “fighting” is just for show. If Congress doesn’t want the wall in the budget it simply will not be in the budget, period.

The French have a phrase for it: “Reculer Pour Mieux Sauter” - to make a strategic withdrawal - to fall back in order to get a better jump - it’s 3D chess, not the governmental shuffle Republicans usually practice.....

Best way would appear to be for Trump to order the Army to the border to patrol until such time as the wall can be built. That way he keeps his promise and cranks up the pressure on the Dems as the costs of that operation surpass $1 billion.

“There’s no “make them do it” in our government.”

FR is demonstrating that the left weren’t the only ones that flunked civics, that’s for sure.

There’s always that crowd that loves that vague idea of “holding their feet to the fire” without ever being able to say how that works.

The 2018 election should be quite interesting. Voters will have the opportunity to help drain the swamp of the GOPe. It will be interesting to see how Trump plays it.

Federal fiscal year is Oct 1 - Sep 30, not July 1 - June 30 which tends to be more common for US businesses.

Please correct me if I am wrong... but even a continuing resolution bill still needs the president’s signature. So, Trump doesn’t sign the bill without the funding and they send home a bunch of dem federal employees. That is more than show.

Take what up? Another continuing resolution in threat of a shutdown. First the wall and then the tax cuts. Or, is there some surprise along with a judicial appeal somewhere.
