Feedback from Old Time User
Just as in real life, FR has the good, bad and ugly. One needs to just learn who is an ahole and ignore their comments. Find the members who have useful informative comments and search for them, that’s what I often do. Make a list of the names and search ‘em. Saves time and angst. Ones who are consistent idiots, never read their droppings.
I have been on FR a great number of years and I've never seen that.
What you are seeing is the "drive-by" culture of post and run, one comment and leave type of stuff. There are still prominent conservative thinkers here. Lot of younger crowd runs with 4chan and reddit. I don't like either format for discussion.
Just ignore the guys trying drive traffic to their website and sell books here.
Neat trick, that. 😀
I think he's proven both those falsehoods to be what they were.
Nowadays, I try to stick to only bashing Trump Eeyores with a noticeable NeverTrumper history in the primaries.
Personal disclaimer: My main support of Trump was my hope that he would destroy the Media Death Star. I'm a happy guy these days. 😀
You have to know when to stand aside from the Great Free Republic Interstate Pileups. 😀
I didn't get involved in the Great Illegal Immigrant Wars, nor in the Mitt Romney 2012 Irish Stand Down, to name two of them. :)
I made an exception to my long-standing rule in the 2016 Primary Wars. Fortunately, my horse went all the way for the win in the race.
Personally I think never-Trumpers and Cruz’tards get what they deserve.
Just ignore those who disturb your sensibilities cause I doubt much will change, And yep this is a pro president Trump place, pretty much everywhere else on Internet bashes Trump.
Thanks, HTM- I’m honored to be listed with Ohioan and wardaddy
I have my own must-read list and they are both on it. Along with distaff posters salamander and MeganC. MeganC is in her 20s but you’d never guess that judging from her breadth of knowledge.
and the error that you spotted isn’t the only one in his post
Let us leave aside that this website was never active during any Bill Clinton election.
Let me axe you a qestion: When did your father serve?
Old guys should come across with thoughtful discussion. It doesn’t help to stomp all over the garlic patch just so everyone can smell. An old guy should know the difference between stomping and tippy toeing.
Good post Bay ;’}
Wow! Thank you for the compliment!
I read a lot is all. Someone on here in the past year or so told me that I was an “autodidact” and it was ironic that I looked it up and found out what it meant!
(-:
“All women are evil feminazi witches.”
But most of the month I’m a perfectly nice person.
But the most amazing thing that I found on this website was the outrageous humor that filled every nook and cranny of the threads. Probably with the exception of threads created on or shortly after 911, there hasn't been one thread that I've come across that didn't contain at least one response that eased the tension of the article or the readers' responses with humor .. some of it bizarre, some of it laugh-out-loud, but all of it something that I found comforting, leading me to call this place home.
I patterned my usage to FR primarily on the gold-standard of comedians I found here: Dighton, L,TOWM, Sauropod, Pookie18, Lazamataz, and others whose names I have forgotten as they passed through FR. There have been far too many times where, when everything seemed doom-and-despair in the world, the only place I could find solace and restoration was FR.
Sure, the edges have become a little sharper around here .. heck, they've become like razor-wire outside of the confines of FR. We've all become a little bit more jaded and tired of the political correctness that surrounds us, everywhere but here, and, even here, opinions have become more pointed. But that's life .. at least, life as it should be; and life is worth living here at FreeRepublic.

That was me. And it’s not just that you read a lot- you manage to somehow pick worthwhile things to read, no small trick in itself. And you manage to remember and correlate/synthesize what you have read.
There’s a little book I once read that any confessed autodidact should enjoy: “Another Sort of Learning” by a mackerel-snapper named James V Schall. I’m not sure how the site below works, but apparently the book can be accessed here:

What year did freerepublic start?
