Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll add it to my wish list for birthdays and Christmas!

I agree with the author that ‘great books’ need to be part of a self-education. Part of the benefit of reading such books isn’t just the content you’re exposed to but the use of language. I’ve been reading as my #1 hobby now for the past eight years and if you look at my posts on FR I’m sure you’ll see the improvement in my writing.

A lot of that improvement came from the practice I get writing posts on FR!

And I really enjoy your posts and Tom’s (KC_Lion) in particular!

- Megan

One thing I learned long ago: when a woman dislikes something on generalizations (particularly something prior experience tells you they *should* like)...there’s a hidden “term” in the “equation.”

Thank you, Blue — always good to hear from a long time (I won’t say “old”) friend.

I’ve noticed a little less tolerance around here, but taken it stride, txzman. The internet has been kind of a rough place since I found it 20 years and FR maybe a LITTLE more civilized, but still wild and woolly sometimes.

Thinking about it, what is going on here is somewhat reflective of what is going in “real life” politics. This site over the years has gotten harsher towards RINO’s and Libertarians over the last few years. This is (I think) a side effect of conservatives being let down by little to no effective opposition in the Obama error, er, era and the hood winking that we all got from W.

What I see going on now is a polarization that reflects the strains on the system. We all are having the feeling that time is running out and that more extreme measures a justified and needed. Which leads to an exhaustion of tolerance by many. This is not a left/right, lib/conservative thing either. Anybody that is somewhat politically engaged can feel what is coming. Many are behaving accordingly, even here.

As for me, I am pretty much disengaged from the political process, as I have come to believe that it is nothing but Kabuki Theater and essentially meaningless. The system itself has permitted us to get where we are today and those that benefit the most from the status quo will make dammed certain that the system will not be used to make meaningful changes. The left came to believe that 50 years ago. W and Obama convinced me of it since 2002.

The next leader I show any devotion to will be the one that says “let’s burn it all down and start over!”.

You’re talking about Ted Cruz haters and Never Trumpers.
That combination has made this place nasty.
Good folks from both camps and some idolatry in thinking one man or another will be a perfect leader
There is no such thing but, there are leaders that seem to show Gods soverignty by furthering his promises in these times though.
Heads up is all I have left to say.

Thank You Sweetest Megan!

I admit, I learned more from reading on my own growing up than I did in school.

I wish I had a (easy) way to go back on look on my First posts on Free Republic.

Something to see I am sure.

I found FR when I was young too Megan Dear. :D

This is an awesome Forum

You hurt your credibility immensely by posting this the day you sign up.
Even if you did have a previous screen name.

That’s one of the best compliments anyone has ever paid me here

Thank you so much

Bill and Pelham are better informed than I and more erudite

My talent or perhaps laziness is my sort of stream of consciousness writing which reflects my inability to write on a device like I would have in a blue book in college

I tend to write here like I’m talking instead of writing

But more importantly I say what many feel but don’t want to say publicly....you know like how folks look around before they speak honestly about any minority of any race or ethnicity or religion or homosexuals etc

It’s that simple

The forum has changed and we’re more tolerated

And I’m like Ohioan and Pelham old enough to remember when America was much better

Thanks so much

I keep hearing Dwight Yokum.....I’m a honky tonk man....and I can’t seem to stop....

I’ve dealin with stuff in Mississippi sorry for being tardy

wardaddy--

You are much too modest. The above quip captures America's variety of what might be called a "Stalinist effect," perfectly. That is indeed the very artificial condition that the PC enforcing Leftists have achieved in contemporary Americans, even in Conservative circles.

Do not take this in the wrong way. I am not an advocate of deliberately hurting anyone's feelings--that is anyone who has not earned a fair insult. But the Left has not simply played the polite card--indeed, they are anything in this world but polite; anything in this world from actually respecting human differences.

They are viciously at war with anyone who dares to recognize the eternal truth that Mankind come in a vast array of different types, with different personalities, aptitudes, motivations, looks, behavior, susceptibilities, strengths & weaknesses.

The idea that we are supposed to engage in a form of "let's pretend" that all of us are interchangeable critters, capable of being remolded by obsession driven fanatics who seek to control our social environment, would be laughable, if it were not destroying any rational future.

I was fighting the lunacy a full forty years before the media even adopted the PC lingo. And as the decades have flown past, it has become ever more obvious that no normal person benefits from the efforts at such thought intimidation; no one of any race, faith or kinship. There is a class of parasites--demagogues & scoundrels--who seek gladly to exploit the mental climate, created, at the expense of their neighbors, kin & fellow countrymen, for dishonorable purpose. But making people afraid to deal with the actual differences--to even discuss the things that are real, and which actually lead to the conditions, which the demagogues mold into imaginary "grievances," is the surest way not to improve anyone's reality. That is anyone but the modern 'serpents in the Garden'--the Leftist manipulators of all who are susceptible.
