Stunning Success! Vitamin C Saves People Dying of Sepsis
CBN News ^ | April 6, 2017 | Lorie Johnson

It seems too good to be true. A simple and inexpensive treatment for one of the most dreadful conditions around: sepsis.

Also known as blood poisoning, sepsis strikes one million Americans every year, killing one-fourth of them.

Dr. Paul Marik, chief of pulmonary and critical care at Eastern Virginia Medical School, came up with the idea on little more than a whim.

His patient, 48-year-old Valerie Hobbs, was succumbing to sepsis and he had run out of options to save her. It was a desperation shot in the dark: Vitamin C. It worked. Beautifully. Again and again.

Valerie spent a lifetime crocheting blankets for people in her church and feeding the homeless. But then she came down with sepsis. And when everyone thought it would take her life, she was brought back from the brink of death.

"I feel blessed," she said, "I don't say lucky. I tell people, 'I'm not lucky because I didn't win the lottery.' I'm blessed. Because God could have took me. He got me here for a reason. To keep doing the stuff I do."

Valerie was "patient A," the first to receive an experimental treatment for sepsis that worked, and ended up working on many more patients after her.

Sepsis is the body's reaction to an infection. It usually occurs in people who are hospitalized. About a quarter of a million Americans die from sepsis every year, making it the most common cause of death among people who are hospitalized.

Valerie was about to become one of them. Dr. Marik was treating her in the Intensive Care Unit and knew her outlook was grim.

"When you see a patient dying," he said, "You can tell they are dying."

Dr. Marik told Valerie's daughter Anne to prepare for the worst.

"I just broke down and cried," Anne recalled. "I just broke down and cried."

Not long before that, Dr. Marik had been reading about the healing powers of Vitamin C. On a hunch, he gave 1.5 grams of it to Valerie intravenously (because the body can only absorb 500 milligrams when taken orally), along with the steroid hydrocortisone, to reduce inflammation. He would later add Vitamin B to the mixture three patients later.

"I went home not expecting that she would survive," Dr. Marik admitted, "The next morning when I got to work, she was off the blood pressure medication and she was off the ventilator two hours later and actually left the ICU three days later. So it was quite astonishing." Since then, Dr. Marik has treated over 150 septic patients the same way. Time after time they survive.

"This is quite miraculous in that patients who are critically ill, who are at death's door, when we give them this simple combination of medications it turns around their septic process," Dr. Marik said. "And within hours they're significantly better. So in a way, it is a miracle."

News of Dr. Marik's revolutionary Vitamin C cure for sepsis is sweeping the medical community from coast to coast. The reaction? Mixed.

"Some people think this is the coolest thing in the world," Dr. Marik said. "Others think this is complete b.s. and this could not possibly be true."

Dr. Marik says the skeptics are waiting on proof his protocol works in the form of a large, randomized study. However, that may be a very long wait. Most research like that is very expensive and is paid for by drug companies who are testing one of their products that they stand to make a lot of money from, once it's approved. Marik's protocol does not fit that description.

Dr. Marik says when considering his protocol, physicians with patients dying from sepsis need to weigh the pros and cons.

"My argument is, it's so safe, you've got nothing to lose," he said.

Not only is it safe, it's also cheap. This is good news, not only for America, but more so for poor countries. Worldwide, sepsis claims eight million lives every year.

Not sure about this if true I waste $$ on 1000 mg tabs

If you take mega doses orally, you'll also need to take a good size dose of calcium. That will help with absorption of amounts over 500Mg.

The “government health organizations”? You can’t be serious........

I heard about some new stuff that is great and contains all the nutrients your body needs. It’s called “soylent green”.

Well that sucks.

Would lesser C still effect the BS numbers?

I just got my fasting glucose and it was 96. Seems awfully close to pre diabetes but has been that number for maybe 15 years.

Since being a doc is a 24/7 job, is there a new spot needed? Researcher of research? In the office like a secretary. So many studies for specialties. Can’t imagine being a general practitioner. Take care, Doc.

” That will help with absorption of amounts over 500Mg. “

An example of why not to take medical advice from the internet forums.

“A search for Klenner and his polio “cure” yields hits that nearly all come from pro-quackery sites, “

You sure are making a lot of sweeping statements about something I expect you know little about. Quite a few doctors have used Vitamin C for various diseases over several decades and reported success. It's definitely something that needs more research and controlled studies. I don't know the answers and neither do you.

When it comes to quacks, I'm more concerned about the quacks at some of the quack sites whose mission in life seems to be to discredit every non-traditional treatment that comes along.

Did you know for decades that ulcers were caused by uptight personalities and stress? Now ulcers are caused by bacteria and are treated with antibiotics. The medical profession does not always find the best treatment right off the bat, and that's no criticism of the profession.

Why are you spamming this thread, TG? If you don’t believe in the premise...as others may or may not, then you may simply ignore the thread, altogether. But, spamming so many comments is not polite.

Are you a medical doctor? Or, did you sleep at a Holiday Inn, last night? Or, just a general expert on all things?

A couple of doctors have chimed in on this thread, and the efficacy of Vitamin C protocols. So, why not leave it be?

Yes, I can be serious. We need a truly independent government health organization to objectively investigate non-traditional treatments that simply will not be studied under the present systems of incentives. I doubt such an organization exists at present, but it is needed.

“It seems too good to be true.”

That seems to be a hard lesson for most people to absorb.

Have you seen one of the FR threads on “cold fusion” or “the reactionless drive”?

Part of the problem is that once out of thousands of times, the jackpot bells ring and the riches flow out!

Consider: Penicillin, gunpowder, internal combustion, movable type, iodine supplements, paper, steam power, rifled barrels, brass cartridges, the chronometer, vitamin C (for scurvy), the telegraph, floridated water, electric generation, optics.

The real ones get copied, multiply, and spread rapidly. But I can imagine the skepticism of a shooter in 1650, hearing of a gun that can reliably hit a man sized target at 300 yards... right...

They all delivered things “too good to be true”. The difference being that what they delivered could be measured and most people could see results fairly quickly.

My kids had hardly any cavities in their teeth. Fluoridated water.

I’ve read a lot about Vit C over the years. If the details given in the article are true, then I would certainly go with the Vit C if I were dying from sepsis. At least Vit C isn’t going to harm me, as do many of the drugs they are pushing these days.

Pauling’s work on vitamin C in his later years generated much controversy. He was first introduced to the concept of high-dose vitamin C by biochemist Irwin Stone in 1966. After becoming convinced of its worth, Pauling took 3 grams of vitamin C every day to prevent colds.[4] Excited by his own perceived results, he researched the clinical literature and published Vitamin C and the Common Cold in 1970. He began a long clinical collaboration with the British cancer surgeon Ewan Cameron in 1971 on the use of intravenous and oral vitamin C as cancer therapy for terminal patients.[143] Cameron and Pauling wrote many technical papers and a popular book, Cancer and Vitamin C, that discussed their observations. Pauling made vitamin C popular with the public[144] and eventually published two studies of a group of 100 allegedly terminal patients that claimed vitamin C increased survival by as much as four times compared to untreated patients.[145][146]

A re-evaluation of the claims in 1982 found that the patient groups were not actually comparable, with the vitamin C group being less sick on entry to the study, and judged to be “terminal” much earlier than the comparison group.[147] Later clinical trials conducted by the Mayo Clinic also concluded that high-dose (10,000 mg) vitamin C was no better than placebo at treating cancer and that there was no benefit to high-dose vitamin C.[148][149][150] The failure of the clinical trials to demonstrate any benefit resulted in the conclusion that vitamin C was not effective in treating cancer; the medical establishment concluded that his claims that vitamin C could prevent colds or treat cancer were quackery

Big Pharma would rather let people die from Sepsis for years and years than accept that they’re going to lost money on some of their products.

Thanks for linking to real studies. I hate these kinds of articles because I have seen charlatans and quacks selling the soft headed on vitamin protocols using the exact same “too cheap to get approval” claim.

I am also glad to see that the articles also confirm the positive effects of vitamin C. As a layman, sepsis always bothered me in its ability to turn a relatively minor injury on a perfectly healthy person into death or lifetime disability in a matter of days.

The article is hype. Review his actual data.

One doctor backed me up and another suggested that just rub essential oils on the soles of your feet. I believe he was making fun of the hype here.

Lol, so if Pauling didn’t prove that Vitamin C could cure cancer and the common cold, you conclude that it has no efficacy in the treatment of any other disease or condition?

Many more than Dr. Pauling have experimented with Vitamin C and found it useful in treating various bacteria and even viral infections. Needs more objective study.
