Meet the Irish-American Going by a Mexican Nickname Challenging Ted Cruz
The Washington Free Beacon ^ | March 31, 2017 | Brent Scher

Democratic Congressman Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke, an Irish-American who adopted the Mexican nickname during his childhood in Texas, officially announced on Friday that he will run for U.S. Senate in 2018 against Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas).
.
.
.
The Mexican nickname came in handy in 2012 when O'Rourke decided to challenge eight-term incumbent Democrat Silvestre Reyes in a congressional district that is 75 percent Mexican and just 2 percent Irish.

O'Rourke won and has since legislated under the belief that he is the representative for both the people of El Paso and neighbor across the U.S. border, Juarez, arguing that it is his responsibility to look after the interests of the Mexican city.

I hope we have a conservative to run against Cruz. Texas deserve a conservative senator in the seat.

Sixteen were hanged on Sept. 10, 1847, thirty were hanged on Sept. 13, and ironically perhaps, only four were hanged on Sept. 11th....

It will be fun to see Ted getting raped over the coals by all his fellow Senators who hate him, from both parties at his nomination hearing.

Yikes. Getting raked over the coals is bad enough, but people must really have it in for you when they rape you over the coals. Prison BBQ. That'll leave a mark!

FYI: With the California gold rush the Sydney, Australia prison colony loaded up three ships of their hardest hard cases and set them off. Two arrived in San Francisco. The arrivals were soon involved in criminal activity and were given the name “Sydney Ducks.” The Vigilance committee of San Francisco was formed to get rid of them and on one occasion hanged more than 20 in one day. The Ducks decided to head south. Some went into Mexico (including as I recall a family member of Anthony Quinn), finding Juarez and Chihuahua most amenable. It is possible that O’Rourke is from the same heritage.

I’d comment, but my state is probably ground zero for the worst of that, California.

That’s a nightmare situation. Why on God’s green Earth would Gov Abbott appoint a freak Dem (who wants to open the border between El Paso and Juarez) to replace cRuz?

Not to mention the fact that Trump would likely rather keep Lyin Ted in the Senate...and select his next SCOTUS nominee from his excellent shortlist.

Aren’t a large percent of the homes in El Paso owned by Mexican nationals?
