United Airlines bars teenage girls in leggings from flight

Two teenage girls wearing leggings were barred from boarding a United Airlines flight on Sunday because they did not meet a dress code for special pass travelers, a company spokesman said amid a furor on social media.

The two girls, who were traveling with a companion, would not have been turned away for wearing leggings had they been paying customers, United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said as the airline responded to the backlash.

"(The two girls) were instructed that they couldn't board until they corrected their outfit. They were fine with it and completely understood," Guerin said, adding that all three passengers missed the flight. He did not know if they had boarded a later plane or made alternate travel arrangements.

Though the three passengers did not complain about their treatment, another traveler, Shannon Watts, who overheard the discussion touched off a firestorm on social media with a series of tweets describing a policy she suggested was unfairly targeting women and girls.

The most unattractive tacky piece of attire ever invented.”

I corrected myself.

No worse fashion requirement has been foisted upon our culture than the current trend called “yoga-pants”.

I would argue it's the best, not worst.

Hey, if they want to wear a ‘rape-me’ sign....

You may want to seek help if the sight of yoga pants brings feelings of rape.

"Do you know they sell “camel-toe” undies?"

They would go well with those pussy hats.

Anyone remember the `hot pants’ craze of 1970? No? Then you’re all younger than me (sniff).

Then you're old enough to remember that hot pants were the signature clothing item for the flight attendants on the then-new Southwest Airlines. Then somebody decided that being an FA was a "career" as they aged through maternity and right out of the previous uniforms. Along the way, the "light in the loafers" crowd determined being an FA was a way to broaden their horizons. Throw in the "bus with wings" atmosphere along with a TSA "group grope" and the whole experience has gone in the toilet.

Mode of dress has nothing to do with rape.

Nothing?

That's like saying leaving your front door open has nothing to do with burglary.

I'd go with little.

” ... if you are dressing to entice a 17 year-old, you are also enticing a 71 year-old.”

I said almost the same thing to princess riverdawg when she was a teenager: “If you dress to attract the attention of one particular boy, you will most likely attract the unwanted attention of all the boys and many men.” Her sensible response was “yuck!”

I always told my girls “Dress so that the attention you’re getting is the attention you want.”

So stupid of United. Why is it that Freepers take the position that anything a private company does is A-OK? This is ridiculous. I am against dress codes of any kind in any situation. What difference does it make? As long as the person shows up? Sheesh! The company should be roasted for this.

Leggings can’t be worn without a tunic, or long shirt. My leggings are really stretch jeans from Chico’s anyway.

My wife who has been an ardent yoga gal for 25 years is right

It’s like wearing opaque panty hose in public

Every time she wears hers out if she’s in a hurry without covering up good she gets cat calls

Sometimes overwhelmingly

I see young women in sheer super tight pairs and you can tell they are innies our outies labia wise

It’s a bit much

And I absolutely worship the physical loveliness of women naked or not

My 16 year old son attends a middle TN affluent county high school where girls wear them like uniforms

You should sit in the parking lot at dismissal

I’m just like wow

Ass parade of way too young girls

And it’s just too much

Some districts ban them unless coverup is worn

I agree

Same way they use to measure mini skirts when I was in school and btw nobody could wear shorts

Uniforms fix this

Hey, look at me! I'm flying for free!

Deadly combination : Arrogance, the attraction of the benefits of victimhood, political correctness, special privilege of snowflakes and the certain expectation of the support of the really really stupid ignorant segment of the population that they are entitled to special privileges, just because...

Rules are for other people, or watch me have a hissy fit and inconvenience 200+ other people.

Manners and etiquette? duties of parenthood?

Whazzat?

We flew “special pass” all the time. we knew the rules. And yes, you can’t dress like a slob if you are not a paying customer.

Just what I told coworkers this morning.

Non-issue.

My wife wears various color jeans from J Brand to Current Eliliot to RTA to Rag and Bone

The boyfriend jeans are loose and cropped or folded and low slung

The rest have Lycra and are tight

Some are like fake leather looking

None are cheap sadly

I wore stand alone Levi’s as a boy bought at Shainbergs for 3.75

Or at the Branding Chute for a hair more

My wife used to work for one of the airlines. We flew “special pass” all the time. we knew the rules. And yes, you can’t dress like a slob if you are not a paying customer.

If you're a paying slob, you will be tolerated up to a point.

If you are traveling at the totally voluntary option and discretion of the airline, like it or not you ARE representing the airline. You can be a slut on your own dime/time.
