Two teenage girls wearing leggings were barred from boarding a United Airlines flight on Sunday because they did not meet a dress code for special pass travelers, a company spokesman said amid a furor on social media.
The two girls, who were traveling with a companion, would not have been turned away for wearing leggings had they been paying customers, United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said as the airline responded to the backlash.
"(The two girls) were instructed that they couldn't board until they corrected their outfit. They were fine with it and completely understood," Guerin said, adding that all three passengers missed the flight. He did not know if they had boarded a later plane or made alternate travel arrangements.
Though the three passengers did not complain about their treatment, another traveler, Shannon Watts, who overheard the discussion touched off a firestorm on social media with a series of tweets describing a policy she suggested was unfairly targeting women and girls.

I used to work for this very airline. “Special pass” means buddy pass, and yes, there are strict dresscodes when it comes to flying on a buddy pass.

Yes, Shannon Watts is a busybody and she has caused some serious problems for a United employee. Shannon has caused a lot of negative publicity for the airline. The employee who got the passes has now been identified by the airline. You have to know it won’t enhance his/her career at United.
I just looked it up. You weren’t kidding. It is meant to accentuate that area. I hope it doesn’t become the next fashion. At what point will we women draw the line and say enough is enough?

The woman that started the furor just doesn’t understand the issue. If someone laid it out, maybe she would, but it sounds like she has “the chip”, so she probably wouldn’t.
BTW, in our case it was Alaska Airlines.
It’s pretty standard policy. It is also quite reasonable.
I used to fly non-rev on Delta all the time. Dress code used to be coat and tie for first class, tie and no coat for tourist class. I know they relaxed the dress code about 10 years ago. Regardless, a dress code for free flight was fine by me.
Mode of dress has nothing to do with rape. A rapist is interested in rape, not fashion.
As I told my Sunday School girls, if you are dressing to entice a 17 year-old, you are also enticing a 71 year-old.
