Trump Becomes Ensnared in Fiery G.O.P. Civil War (NY Times high drama fake news alert)
NY Times ^ | March 25, 2017 | Glenn Thrush and Maggie Haberman

Posted on 03/25/2017 11:27:51 AM PDT by Zakeet

President Trump ignites a lot of fights, but the biggest defeat in his short time in the White House was the result of a long-running Republican civil war that had already humbled a generation of party leaders before him.

A precedent-flouting president who believes that Washington’s usual rules and consequences of politics do not apply to him, Mr. Trump now finds himself shackled by them.

In stopping the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, the Republican Party’s professed priority for the last seven years, the rebellious far right wing of his party out-rebelled Mr. Trump, and won a major victory on Friday over the party establishment that he now leads.

Like every other Republican leader who has tried to rule a fissured and fractious party, Mr. Trump faces a wrenching choice: retrenchment or realignment. Does he cede power to the anti-establishment wing of his party? Or does he seek other pathways to successful governing by throwing away the partisan playbook and courting a coalition with the Democrats he has improbably blamed for his party’s shortcomings?

An acquaintance of mine informed me today that the "Meals on Wheels' program had been abolished - I tried to correct him, and his only reply was, "they can't just make up news!" One the rules I live by is 'never argue with a fool', so I bid him adieu...

During the past 7 years bills to repeal Obamacare were passed by both the house and the senate dozens of times. They didn’t have new plans attached, so where are the people that passed them and why not do it again?

Fake it be. But the provenance that NYT, CT, BG, LAT et al are using now were given wind by an internal fight in our side of House, and took much recognition and praise about it.

I honestly don’t know and only wanted to get something done that could further things. If that’s how things have to be now, okay. I’ll accept it. But it still doesn’t stop the left from taking wild advantage of it.

I don’t know what the answer is. Fire Ryan seems the first thing. The second thing is for President Trump to get on the ground and plan an agenda and work the basics of implementation before allowing the underwear out to dry.

All I know now is I’m disappointed and more than pissed we’ve allowed Democrats to make so much hay from this.

In stopping the repeal of the Affordable Care Act,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was no repeal in Ryancare, it was just a rearranging of Obamacare.
The left is still utterly clueless as to what’s happening.
That’s a good thing!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Because this time it might get signed.
The Uniparty eunuchs in Congress want to preserve the power that Fedzilla derives from Obamacare.
That’s why Ryancare preserved 80% of Obamacare.

“long-running Republican civil war”

True, the RINOs have been a cancer on the party for a long time.

“In stopping the repeal of the Affordable Care Act”

Fake news.

The Critical Question

Heller, GOP senator from Nevada, is up in 2018, and that’s now a blue state he won by only 49% in 2012.

Flake, GOP senator from Arizona, is up in 2018. This is a red state, less so than in the past, and with it more red he won that seat with only 46% in 2012.

Collins in Maine . . . we know her inclinations.

McCain . . . ditto.

This makes 50 difficult to get for a healthcare bill, with Trump now president and thus the Filibuster now in play (vs previous votes the Dems didn’t bother to oppose/filibuster).

So. With the Freedom Caucus having rejected Ryan’s bill, what text will they propose that can get through this Senate under Reconciliation (for 50) or can get 60 votes outright to invoke cloture.

That’s the critical question. What is the conservative proposal designed very carefully to pass the Senate?

"Haggie" Haberman - stenographer for the DNC.

I hear she takes BOTH kinds of "dictation" from Chucky "Stabby the Crazed Doll" Schumer.

Hard on the fingers, and the knees... 😀

One can only guess that these journohacks who take direct dictation from the DNC are covering for something.

Pedo Alliance, anyone?

Probably best to note that Obamacare is in the budget. If a Freedom Caucus member votes for the budget, he’s approving Obamacare.

And let’s be sure we understand the situation. ZERO Democrats are going to vote for anything at all. If there is any hint of cooperation, their base will primary them away. And they know it.

So . . . this means no budget, no defense spending, no social security checks. You want a budget that excludes Obamacare spending so you don’t face that? No problem. Find 60 votes.

Oooh, and let’s extrapolate.

No budget is great! A great conservative victory?

This means Dept of Treasury isn’t paid. All employees go home. Great!!! A victory?

This means US government bonds default. No one to pay the interest. That would be about 40% of the operating portfolios of every state. Not to mention no Medicare payments go out so your parents get no med treatment.

wait, there’s more.

“Well, those disasters won’t happen. We’ll be willing to fund just those things in a partial budget.”

Got 60? Why should the Dems allow you to do that?

Time to govern. That means you gotta appeal to the majority, that’s majority GOP who are somewhat moderate.

Conservatives have somehow forgotten that almost everyone in Washington D.C. is an enemy and a member of the Uni-Party.

How come Ryan was able to put together a complicated POS bill but the Freedom Caucus couldn’t come up with anything during the same amount of time?

Because they have no intention of coming up with anything to do away with O-care.

It will be the same with border control and any tax rate cuts will be small. There will be no major reform of tax policy.

It’s a Status Quo Caucus.

Well, I do doubt their sincerity. There are NeverTrump aspects to this.

The question stands though, and you’ve noted it.

What is their proposal? What do they want that they carefully designed to pass the Senate?

Heller, Flake and McCain all voted for the Gang of Amnesty and Collins would have but her vote wasn’t needed.
They are Democrats in R jerseys.
There wasn’t 51 votes in the Senate for your version of Obamacare.
