Sen. Graham: 'Just Let Obamacare Collapse'

As Republicans prepare to vote on their health care bill, which does not fully repeal Obamacare, a number of Republicans say it’s a mistake to put their names to the plan:

“Just let Obamacare collapse, then challenge the Democrats to come in and help us fix the mess they created,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told Fox News Friday morning, as lawmakers debated the latest iteration of the bill on the House floor.

“President Trump’s going to be judged by the outcome of the legislation, and what I see in the House, I don’t think this legislation is going to move the ball in the right direction.” …

If that was what Graham was suggesting, then I would agree with it.

Agreed. The media would gleefully hang Obamacare's failure around the neck of the GOP like an albatross, and they would be right--it would happen on the republicans' watch. To follow this plan would be suicidal and cost the Nation any chance for the future.

I agree with, but I argue for a repeal of Obamacare, not Obamacare light.

Sure, keep the components everyone agrees on (pre-existing, 26 yr. old coverage, etc.) but why would they need to do a repeal in 3 stages ( three bills)? That will never happen, and everyone knows it. Why not pass what they sent to Obama, or was that ahem, a ruse?

The point is, if they do nothing, and it looks like that might happen, they had better be prepared for the corrupt MSM to work with the Obama machine to hang the Obamacare collapse around the Republican’s neck. Won’t be fair. Won’t be the least bit accurate, but as we all know, that’s how it works with these criminals.

Recall the left and the corrupt MSM spent the better part of the last decade blaming everything on Bush despite one screw up after another by Obama who pretty much destroyed anything he touched.

Obamacare was never fully implemented. If it had been it would have crashed already. Make the Dems fully implement it.

Don't have to make them fully implement it. Obamacare won't make it another year on its own as-is.

Obama delayed some of the most devastating aspects until after he was gone. But they need to be forced to implement their own plan. This should have been the first thing on the list.

Republican's have had EIGHT YEARS to formulate their own plan to replace Obamacare.

Where is that plan?

Clearly it doesn't exist, so it's obvious to me that their "plan" all along was to let it collapse under its own weight.

The question then is, what happens when it collapses under its own weight? The natural, obvious answer is SINGLE PAYER.

IF (and this is a big IF) the Republican Party wasn't on board for single payer health-care, then WHY did they piss away eight long years doing NOTHING to come up with a replacement plan?

Why scramble now to create a plan to replace Obamacare?

Again, here the answer is natural and logical to me: So they can hang a failed plan around President Trump's neck and disable his Presidency.

Ryancare failing will be reported as a TRUMP FAILURE and the media will hop all over that proclaiming the rest of Trump's agenda is already dead, including Tax Reform and tax cuts which we taxpayers all desperately need.

The BEST thing that can happen here is that a bill FAILS in the House of Representatives and President Trump goes out and BLITZES the GOP-E and lying suckbags like Paul Ryan so badly that they all get primaried right out of office.

Most won't believe this, but I happen to view the House Conservative Caucus (Freedom Caucus) and President Trump to be natural allies. The view that they're enemies I think is complete bullshit.

No matter how many times you shuffle this deck...it will all lead onto single-payer in the end. Once you say that you want affordable and quality health-care....it cannot lead to any satisfactory end.

“Just let Obamacare collapse, then challenge the Democrats to come in and help us fix the mess they created,”

How idiotic is this? Didn’t the libs create the monster in the first place? The main threat to the Health Care Act is that it creates an environment of dependency. Before Obama took office in 2009, the level of haves and have nots was 52/48 haves. Before he left office, it was the opposite where the 46 was financing the 54. And once you start down that road of creating political prostitutes of everyone you can trap into it, they are no longer able to fend for themselves. So, sooner or later, they will have to live with the beast or die because if the beast dies, no one will have the scraps to eat.

Since the conservatives allowed themselves to get us into this spot, they can’t completely kill the beast that is so all controlling. They will have to create a tamer beast to provide enough until we can get rid of the beast altogether.

They need to create a plan that transitions us from what we are stuck with now, to one that, in time, is more geared to our own determination based upon capacity. If we can’t get care to all the illegals, so be it. The medical treatment of people is one of the reasons we don’t want them in here. We can’t afford it.

Things like free birth control, viagra/cialis, or drugs that are recreation in their use are no longer available for free. They should be pay for play. Now this doesn’t mean that they will not be available, it just means the user foots the bill. Now if the user has insurance they wish to pay for in its entirety, then they can get care at hospital ER’s or doctors office. Keep me out of the bill. No free loaders.

Healthcare is not any more or less important that employment, housing, transportation, education, and a whole list of others that are a free ticket right now for too many that don’t want to help themselves. We have become a welfare state and the health care act is part of it.

I’m tired of paying for people that don’t help themselves because they don’t have to. Don’t let them. Take it away slow, but take it away. And allowing the HCA to eat itself, is only going to create a new wave of dependency that only the states can provide. Then because the death of the HCA provided the libs with taking control of the people in socialism as it died and the conservatives will be blamed by the media for the serious health care problems its loss created, welcome to big brother.

And it all started because the term heath maintenence was lied about from the libs through the media. And the conservatives allowed it to happen without firing a shot. I just hope Trump, in his don’t care do it right attitude, can handle the onslaught. It’s being porepared now and it will be delivered.

When it does collapse, the smart people on TV and in DC will come up with this solution: more government involvement & control.

Professional Republicans aren’t very bright.

I just would like it to go back to how it was. Health care is expensive and will remain expensive no matter what they do for a host of reasons -- high cost of education for doctors, expensive research & machines, subsidization and insurance that shields people from true costs and competition. Insurance is not supposed to cover doctor visits. That's like having auto insurance covering oil changes. But people in this country are spoiled and used to it. The only way to get true competition would be for people to actually pay for their health care and force costs down and that would be brutal in this society.

By “conservatives”, are you saying “Republicans” instead? Very few actual conservatives in that party. Been that way since the end of WWII.
The New Deal, Dean Acheson wrote approvingly in a book called A Democrat Looks At His Party, “conceived of the federal government as the whole people organized to do what had to be done.” A year later, Mr. (Arthur) Larson wrote A Republican Looks At His Party, and made much the same claim in his book for modern Republicans. The “underlying philosophy” of the New Republicanism, said Mr. Larson, is that “if a job has to be done to meet the needs of the people, and no one else can do it, then it is the proper function of the federal government.”

Here we have, by prominent spokesmen of both political parties, an unqualified repudiation of the principle of limited government. There is no reference by either of them to the Constitution, or any attempt to define the legitimate functions of government. The government can do whatever needs to be done; note, too, the implicit but necessary assumption that it is the government itself that determines what needs to be done. We must not, I think, underrate the importance of these statements. They reflect the view of a majority of the leaders of one of our parties, and of a strong minority among the leaders of the other, and they propound the first principle of totalitarianism: that the State is competent to do all things and is limited in what it actually does only by the will of those who control the State. …

The Conscience of a Conservative (1960), Chapter 2, page 15
The Republicans are merely the Emmanuel Goldstein to the Democrats’ Big Brother.

No, Graham, we'll keep working for a full and genuine repeal. Dummy. When have the liberals in government (like Graham) ever fixed anything? You leave them to fix it and it will only get worse.

That’s the intent of said professional Republicans as well. Graham clearly said so in his diatribe, in fact.

Not if they leave Obamacare to collapse and burn on its own. They have the moral and intellectual high-ground on this one. Obamacare passed without a single Republican vote in the House or Senate.

Democrats own this one lock, stock and stinking barrel.

They can’t even blame Republicans for not “fixing” it when it was all theirs to begin with.

Let it burn.
________________

Sorry, but this is nonsense. The Dems have screwed up things all over the place and never get the blame, why in the World do you think they will now? And most of the Dems who put it in place will be out of office soon enough, so others will run against Obamacare and say the GOP did nothing despite holding the House, Senate, and WH.

Worse yet, you stall out all the other agendas you could be doing. People are making a colossal mistake

“Surely Lyndsey knows ObamaCare cannot just “collapse”. There are many bills to pass, many reconciliation votes, much back and forth negotiating, and months and years of wrangling back and forth must happen before ObamaCare can “collapse”.”

Or be replaced. I think this entire thing is foolish for Republicans. They are about to once again steal defeat from the jaws of victory. Pass the bill. Get it to the Senate. Pass the bill. Go to conference and reconciliation. Come up with the right bill. Go nuclear and have Trump sign it.

Politicians right now are more concerned about what their constituents think then what will help America.

ObamaCare will become unafforable long before it collapses

...and the Libs will blame it on Trump and the Republicans, and the Republicans will not stick up for themselves, as usual.

Where did you come up with the ‘probably’ push for single payer? That’s a given.

And blame Trump for not fixing it. Dems will be popping champagne. They keep Obamacare AND slow Trump’s ability to do other things. And it was “true conservatives” who did it for them. All because some think a mythical bill will materialize later on if we do nothing. Brilliant!

What “repair plan”?

No idea. Could be single payer, like you said. Could be just tweaking Obamacare and sinking more money into subsidies. Regardless, it wouldn't be acceptable to Republicans so they wouldn't pass it. And then the blame game would begin.

Because the voting record on Obamacare cannot be "spun" or lied about. Votes were cast. Names are on record. Not a single one of the YES votes has an (R.) after it.

The ONLY way Democrats DON'T get the blame is for Republican's to "fix" Obamacare. Hell I'd argue Republicans get the blame NOW for ATTEMPTING to pass a bill to "fix" it and are going to go down in flames trying.

They should've NEVER touched the steaming pile of SHIT that is Obamacare in the first place by introducing RyanCare. They should've left Obamacare alone and let it collapse under its own weight.

I used to think Obama was the dumbest piece of shit walking the planet. I'm thinking right now he's laughing his ass off at Paul Ryan and the GOP-E. They fell for it. They're doing to try to FIX Obamacare and as a result, THEY'LL get stuck with the blame for it failing. Obama had this planned all along..... son of a bitch.
