Here is a good article on the history of the Blue Dog Coalition. There have been both for many decades.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_Democrat
Just look up the Blue Dog Coalition to get some of the current names like:
Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri. ...
Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia. ...
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota. ...
Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana. ...
Sen. Angus King of Maine. ...
Sen. Jon Tester of Montana.
In the House you can find:
Rep. John Delaney of Maryland
Rep. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona
Rep Julia Brownley of California
Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota
There are more. And there are a number of liberal Republicans, also.
Sen Susan Collins of Maine
Sen Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
Sen Dean Heller Of Nevada.
Again, these are just a few of those supporting the other party’s agenda. There are more and have been around since the 1800’s.

They seem to have gone yellow dog more than blue dog of late. Not hard to find stories where that happens.
If single payer were popular with a majority of voters, that is exactly what Obamacare would have been, and besides, the GOP would never have won those midterms based on their rhetoric to repeal Obamacare as it is anyway.
“Not hard to find stories where that happens.”
It all depends on what the story is and how it relates to current events. Historically, when the story is in direct conflict with the one the libs want on the air, it will only be printed when the doer can be protected and it is aired to make another story disappear, i.e., forgotten. Obama was really active this way as was Hilary. It seemed like every time they f’ed up, somebody fell on their sword for them and were then successfully wiped off the airways by the media when they could smoke and mirror both stories. Typical lib playbook.
Example: Judicial Watch released State Department documents on Tuesday, which reveal that in the immediate hours after the first Benghazi attack, the Obama administration appeared more concerned about developing its false narrative about a YouTube video, than actually saving American lives.
So this meant nothing until they needed it to richochet the blame. And nothing every happened with it. But it offset the blame long enough to get the film maker jailed for a year, and released. Wonder how much they threatened him to fall n that sword?
