Schumer: Democrats will filibuster Gorsuch nomination
Washington Post ^ | March 23 | Ed O'Keefe, Robert Barnes and Ann E. Marimow

Posted on 03/23/2017 8:11:43 AM PDT by PghBaldy

As the Senate Judiciary Committee was hearing from witnesses for and against Judge Neil Gorsuch, his Supreme Court nomination was delivered a critical blow: Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he would join with other Democrats in filibustering Gorsuch — a move that would require at least 60 senators to vote to end debate on the nomination.

One way to do it might be to require that for a Senator filibustering a USSC nominee, that Senator must stay on the floor offering comments and speeches, just like in the old days of filibustering. None of this filibustering by threat crap. Get rid of the two-track system Mansfield and others put in place. Call their bluff, and make Schumer or whoever wants a filibuster to do a Jimmy Stewart on the Senate floor. And make the ‘Rats sit and listen to him.

Right.....but 10 are very vulnerable this time around, and those would be the ones to tip the balance to a veto/filibuster-proof Senate.

McCain, Graham, Collins, Murkowski.

They might as well be Democrats.

“Democrats are overplaying their hand at every turn. This is why it’s an urban and regional party.
They defend illegals, not citizens. They demand fair treatment for LGBTQ freaks, not all citizens. They want super-rights for blacks, not equal rights for all. It’s pathetic”.

You nailed it very well.

“Nuclear option cannot be filibustered but it will create a long memory.”

The Democrats have moved to the stage where no rule will survive if it is not advantages to them. We might as well blow up the rule now.

Democrats are overplaying their hand at every turn.

Yeah, they're used to playing with the GOP that wanted to be liked, i.e. McCain and Bush.

Trump likes to win.

Still not sure if McConnell likes to win, but if they let they Democrats win this, the entire stall on Garland will be for naught.

McConnell just will not install the nuke and get it done.

Mitch has stated absolutely that Gorsuch will be confirmed, so we'll see.

"I just wonder why schumer would say that knowing about the nuclear option.

Grandstanding, like always."

Yep, that is what his radical base wants to hear. That is why we will be close to super-majority after the 2018 elections.

I just wonder why schumer would say that knowing about the nuclear option.

Because he believes he's got McConnell right where he wants him.

Nuclear option cannot be filibustered but it will create a long memory.

Long memory? The Republicans have already chosen to forget that the Democrats used it on them. Stefan Molyneux recently observed "If benevolence is not reciprocal, it is suicidal." We must accept the fact that the Democrats are no longer playing by "the rules."

Not smart. Not smart at all.

I really thought they'd have saved this for the next, and more important, nominee.

From the article:Schumer is such an idiot. The potential judge should be judged on his record. What else counts?

Writing in The Nation back in January, the old communist professor Frances Fox Piven declared the leftist strategy against President Trump is to "Throw Sand in the Gears of Everything" -- the latest phase of the Cloward-Piven Strategy for revolution. Schumer wants to keep Gorsuch off the court until after several key appeals are argued on the April docket. This is a fight for America's survival, and the nuclear option is warranted.

This^^^ Exactly what you posted.

Trump would not sign off on a deal like that, of course. But the weasels in the Senate could do it without him
