Public broadcasting fires back at White House over proposed budget cuts
Yahoo News ^ | March 16th, 2017 | Christopher Wilson

PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting have pushed back against a White House budget proposal that would drastically cut, or eliminate entirely, funding to the organizations as part of a major realignment of fiscal priorities that includes a big increase in defense spending.

“PBS and our nearly 350 member stations,” said a statement released Thursday, “along with our viewers, continue to remind Congress of our strong support among Republican and Democratic voters, in rural and urban areas across every region of the country. We have always had support from both parties in Congress, and will again make clear what the public receives for federal funding for public broadcasting. The cost of public broadcasting is small, only $1.35 per citizen per year, and the benefits are tangible: increasing school readiness for kids 2-8, support for teachers and homeschoolers, lifelong learning, public safety communications and civil discourse.”

The statement also cites one poll showing that only 21 percent of Americans (32 percent of Republicans) favor ending public broadcasting support, and another that found 70 percent of Trump voters (and 83 percent of Americans overall) saying they want Congress to find savings elsewhere.

Agreed, and ... Trump almost constantly keeps a purposefully injected controversy in the national discussion to distract the media from his quiet swamp draining mission.

Whether or not that swamp draining is going along at the rate we want, it goes faster when the media is distracted by having to propagandize against Trump on issues he's willing to lose.

Fine. Then stop selling Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch and any and all other merchandising... Choose one.

1) Continue to receive funds, and turn over all marketing and sales money for all figures and everything else that raises any monies over to the US Govt, and put it into an account, set up to reclaim taxpayer monies;

Or: 2) Keep any and all monies your raise on your own, and reject any and all taxpayer dollars.

Sesame Street's hidden purpose is to teach toddlers how to watch TV, for a lifetime of propaganda and exposure to the leftist agenda.

I’ve noticed he likes to be the big bad guy, barely restrained by his staff. Like when he said that he personally favored returning to the use of torture immediately, but would accede to Gen. Mattis’ recommendation not to do so.

New Sesame Street Transgender Character Rabbit Brunny

New York, NY — The Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children’s Television Workshop, announced that its flagship program Sesame Street will feature its first transgender character for the 2017 season. The character, who only has a project name of “Brunny” at the time of this writing, will join Elmo and the rest of the Sesame Street characters to discuss important issues of the day, according to staff writers.

“Sesame Street has a long commitment to multiculturalism and diversity,” said Sesame Workshop Director of Communications Bethany Millbright reading from a prepared statement. “So as you might imagine, adding a transgender character to our huge cast of diverse Muppets was a no-brainer. We understand that there will be some who don’t understand this addition, but Sesame Street has long been a vanguard of children’s television and we believe history is on our side.”

According to a draft sketch of the new and arguably controversial character, Brunny will be a bunny-like animal who spent its formidable years being homeless, but through the help of others managed to get back on track. Brunny will be large and second only in size to Big Bird.

Yep - I think that’s true. He sets him self up to distract all the guns so his guys can focus on carrying out their work rather than defending themselves.

They could hire a few crackerjack sales reps. Sell advertising on PBS and NPR.
Are they too holy to do that ?

“advertisers will be lining up around the block to play adds to your massive audience!”

Actually, if we cut their funding, they will simply fundraise 90% of the time instead of just 80%. And that’s fine with me, let the Liberals pay for the thing they love. But I’m long past the point where I want to see my tax dollars being used to subvert our county’s true values.
Trump is going to face this crap at every turn of the road to freedom.

“Heart of Stone”, his entrance music for the pre-inaugural concert. It bowled me over.

A good friend, and Trump supporter, calls him Goldfinger.

Goldfinger would be a good Secret Service call-sign for the POTUS.

It’s right there in the constitution that they have the right to demand the government extort money from hardworking taxpayers and hand it over to them to pay for their bloated salaries and posh offices.

Isn’t it?

/sarcasm off

I don’t know how Trump is going to do all he said he would do... he aims to keep his promises, but there are other things that maybe no one knew would be in effect.

How do we not know soros or someone, is paying off even some of the republicans in anything Trump tries and gets blindsided by even his own party. obama wants his healthcare to survive.. and I’d bet he’s got someone making payments to those republicans.. even ryan.. would not surprise me. and the illegal immigration.. i’m sure obama is the one keeping those judges saying no... Trump’s administration is not even close to being finalized... it’s one slow day after another to get those things done. If Sessions doesn’t plow into that mess and bring them in... even obama.. then it’s not going to happen like it should.. we voted and they are pulling the plug to every item Trump is working on. I cannot stand to think obama is still calling the shots after we voted and have a new President... is it obams 3rd term? I just can’t stand that thought!!

All that is going on is either illegal, or bypasses the constitution.. or is so new that no one has an opinion on it. I heard krauthammer saying if they can’t find the proof, then obama or anyone did not wiretap Trump’s tower or anywhere. That is a statement he cannot prove.. but he has never liked Trump, so he can say it, I guess.. They talk about what obama might have done or not have done... and they are treating him like a normal person.. he’s not normal.. he’s capable of doing anything! They don’t get it and evidently will never get it.. he is a snake... and if he did any wiretapping... he’s not going to leave a note saying “I was here”. They trust this guy? dangerous to do that. I’m sure he knows how to do anything he might think up.. and also knows how to not be found guilty of such.

Unless and until Congress, Trump and Pence hammer those points relentlessly, day after day after day, these cut-back proposals will never succeed. The average lo-fo hasn’t a clue Obama ran the debt from $9 trillion to $18 trillion and what happen she to a nation when debt-to-GDP goes over 100%. People cannot conceive of the fiscal peril we are in. The need to be educated on this and the schools and universities certainly won’t do it. They just see the infinite growth of government as a good thing, not the evil, corrosive force it really is.

While I find it abhorrent, I don't believe Americans support the elimination of public funding for Sesame Street or the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday mornings.

From the Weekly Standard in 2012

The licensing opportunities came in two forms. First, there was the traditional world of product licenses. Characters such as Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and Cookie Monster began appearing on everything from greeting cards to toothbrushes. By 1984, Forbes estimated that the characters were appearing on 1,700 products doing $200 million worth of business just at the wholesale level. And that was the last year before things really took off. Because in 1985 the show introduced Elmo, who quickly became its flagship character and most bankable property.

Big Bird can stand on his own.

With the possible exception of Frontline and a handful of other programs, PBS is well past it’s sell by date.
