While I find it abhorrent, I don't believe Americans support the elimination of public funding for Sesame Street or the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday mornings.

Didn't HBO buy "Sesame Street" already?

So technically they are using my money to lobby gov’t for more money. This should be illegal.

How many $$$billions have been made by selling Sesame Street toys and merchandise from other public broadcasting kids shows?

The news programs are liberal Democrat all-the-way and even the supposed educational stuff is tainted — thank you Bill Moyers, science guy, etc.

Bill Moyers and his son are multi-millionaires with their over-the-top salaries paid for by taxpayers.

On radio — Nina Totenberg, Terri Gross, Gerrison Keillor, even (liberal) Judy Woodruff married to a liberal pundit — I can do without all of them.

If there is such large support, then let those large supporters pay for it.

I wish they would stay away from news altogether, liberal advocacy and stick with shows that are NOT POLITICAL...

There is always someone with an excuse for why this can’t be cut or that can’t be cut and then we wonder why *nothing* gets cut. Donald Trump isn’t interested in these interest group’s excuses for why they are untouchable.

Like on what planet do these people think that Americans watch that much PBS?

Anyone that acts like PBS is central to people’s lives to the point where we need tax dollars in the age of Netflix and YouTube to pay for it is a liar at best.

If they supposedly receive so little from the state, then go do a GoFundMe or divert some of that money from all of the Sesame Street crap they sell and make up the hole.

PBS didn't exist until the late '50s and then, was NOT funded by the Fed government, nor was it a nationwide channel. You couldn't get the NYC channel, outside of the tri-state area and e didn't get anything from Boston, if that one even existed back then. Also there were NO fundraisers. And there were MUCH better shows on, back then.

During the "GOLDEN AGE" of T.V., the three major networks ALL had shows that ranged from philharmonic orchestras to operettas, to actual LIVE plays ( several times a week ), to programs like OMNIBUS, and it was all FREE! And don't get me started on EXCELLENT children's programing, that easily puts the idiotic SESAME STREET to shame.

All PBS station actually MAKE MONEY, selling all kinds of things such as jewelry, clothing, objects d'art, DVDs, books, and clothing.

Sesame Street is now also on HBO and has ALWAYS made money.

LIVE FROM THE MET has, since the 1920s, been on the radio for NOTHING; free for everyone to listen to. Sure it's also great to see it, but even that program, on PBS, has been politicized of late.

Sure I enjoy most ( no longer all of ) MASTERPIECE THEATRE and MYSTERY and the baking show from England, but what with all of the cable channels, Netflix, and the Amazon thing....more and more of Brit T.V. is no longer on PBS.

keillor is retired and the new host is a genuine musician, but there are still entertainers who do politics and they are liberal. He has comic on almost eery week. But PHC no longer has 10 minutes of Trump blasting at the beginning of the show.

My sis worked for Henson Productions back in the 80’s. She did the designs on stuff like Muppet Baby diapers and other products.

Took her forever to get paid though.

PBS and CPB came from National Educational Television, formerly Educational Television and Radio Center. University of Michigan based, so flaming leftist. Been a barely hidden socialist-loving group since the 1950’s.

Trump’s people and we need to educate America on what/who is actually behind this media cabal, their anti-American and queer core, and their supporting organizations.

They’ve been arrogantly in our sides faces for decades. F them. F them hard.

It is not likely that shows which are popular will disappear. They just won’t be on PBS. Why am I paying taxes so someone can be entertained or get their infusion of government determined culture?

“art of the deal”

Start at zero then throw them a bone, a small bone. Add a donation line to the tax return if legal to do so. Let the people screaming put up or shut up come every April tax season.

Okay, so about the same time as it came to NYC.

I wonder if they shared shows via kinescope, as was done in the late '40 and early '50s, for the networks. Did you watch it back then?
