Paul Ryan: Health Care Failure Could Stall Other GOP Priorities

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Friday warned GOP opponents of the party’s healthcare plan that the measure’s failure could derail progress on other key aspects of Republicans’ policy agenda.

In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Ryan said that a defeat of House Republicans’ bill repealing and replacing ObamaCare would be “momentum killing,” essentially having a domino effect on planned tax reform efforts, among other party goals.

“Think of legislation as one train track with a bunch of trains on the track,” Ryan said. “If you don’t get these trains through the system, it slows everything else down."

“So if we didn’t get this done in time, according to our schedule — and we’re planning five weeks over this, this is a five week process of passing this bill, which is fairly lengthy. It slows absolutely everything down, pushes tax reform off past the summer.”

Then start over repeal and replace with basic free market principles. No genetic testing no federal requirements. Just get out of the way and let competition lower the prices. Leave in place the program people are on so no one ‘loses’ their care but offer a better solution for future needs.

This dude is clearly bought off by the insurance companies.

So now Ryan is threatening Republicans?

I blame the HOR reps who lied to get elected for keeping him in power. They use him as an excuse to not fulfill their campaign promises.

Automation AND globalism kills local jobs. Do you think that’s conservatism? Does anyone?

Automation is a happy benefit of Conservatism. Globalism is an unfortunate agenda of neo-fuedalists.

Killing local jobs as a result of building a better mouse trap is the American Way. Killing local jobs because the government is giving you a crony tax break to send the jobs overseas, or conversely is punishing you with huge corporate taxes is not.

51 votes to Repeal Odamacare

Read the constitution.

Owen is a big big Democrat. What threatens loss of Social Security, is more big socialist programs.

Bigger the Government, the more Social Security is destroyed because fewer people support it.

>>Trump may kill automation.

How? Will be ban computers and PLCs? Remember, PowerPoint is automation at its finest. That one piece of software has ended several entire job classes. A word processor is automation. Spell-check is automation. People used to do that stuff for a living, ya know.

>>Automation AND globalism kills local jobs.

Globalism moves jobs out of reach of all Americans. Yes, I understand economics and that losing your high-paying factory job to become a low-wage local delivery truck driver is a zero net loss of jobs. But the guy who lost half his family income to work the same hours does not see it that way.

Automation changes jobs and does eliminate some. At the same time, it increases the pay of other jobs and creates new jobs because automation isn’t and “install it and forget it” thing. But, we hit peak automation years ago. Now, we just add automation for quality and efficiency. I haven’t automated a manual or relay-controlled process since Y2K. Oh yeah, remember relay logic? Pneumatic logic? These have been around in industry for 50+ years and the jobs were still there. The thing that killed industrial jobs was the globalization.

I listened to Ryan stating that he’s been working on this for 20 years and how he’s so excited. Sorry, but he did not sound genuine. He sounded fake.

The "requirement of reconciliation" is contained in a Senate rule pushed through by the late unlamented Robert (KKK) Byrd.

The contents of a reconcilation bill can be expanded to include everything that's in Obamacare.

Fifty one senators, or fifty plus the VP, is what it takes.

You can pat them on the back for allowing due process while they shiv the rest of us.
Get the Government out of making healthcare decisions. For the indigent a saftey net with private bids and State funding. For Veterans a mix of VA & private care with emphasis on choices.

If they can pass this crap, pass a good bill. If they can’t pass a good bill, repeal the whole thing as they did with less than 60 and blame the democrats for blocking reform. Passing this is surrender and permanent socialism. Period. I’d rather leave the current entact that create TrumpCare. It’s a disaster.

In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt

Careful, Rand.

Hewitt is a Cuckservative. That is the equivalent of a BDSM Submissive.

A Cuckservative is the Sub to a Democrat Dom.

Hewitt will obediently pass any information you give him to his Democrat Masters.

And that's a sickening, and accurate, description of American Conservatism.

Congress shall pass no law that applies to the citizens of the US that does not also apply to the congress, senate, and all federal employees.

You do know that Obamacare does not apply to the above mentioned, right?

Looks like we’re not on different pages.

I’d augment the text with the realities of Age and IQ.

The 50 yr old IQ = 90 toll collector at a bridge is told they are automating collections and good luck. A 50 yr old IQ 90 person is not going to go to University of Wherever to get a degree in Computer Science and take one of those new jobs created. It’s not going to happen for any more than 0.05% of that cohort. Note also IQ 100 is by definition the midpoint of the population. We’re talking about a lot of people.

So we have a 50 yr old who may very well (judging from falling Labor Participation Rate) not just lose his or her job, stop paying the income taxes he was paying, but ALSO have to go on benefits.

That’s what automation does to society. Robs income taxes and puts people on benefits.

THAT would be why Trump would not be happy about automation. It doesn’t do a damn thing for those few 10s of thousands of people that got him Wisconsin and Michigan.

>>That’s what automation does to society. Robs income taxes and puts people on benefits.

When you are talking about the IQ 100 and below people, I fully agree with you. Take that low IQ and combine the infirmities of age and you have a useless eater in an Information Age.

But, of course, everyone who finds themselves unemployed these days tries to hit the disability jackpot by claiming back troubles, depression, etc so they can be officially declared a useless eater.

Now, every person who fails to hit the disability jackpot becomes the magical Cheap Labor Workforce that the Globalists desire. They come off the worker list and go on the desperate for anything list. When enough of those people exist in the USA, then the USA will become a desirable nation for industry again.

And all those people on questionable disability? When the time is right, there will be a crackdown on disability fraud and those people will join the ranks of the desperate Cheap Labor Workforce too. Then, we can get our own Foxconn factory right here in flyover country.

Basically, we’re screwed. The expectations for lifestyle and life expectancy are too high to be sustainable, and the expectations for profit and growth are also not sustainable—especially as the majority of Americans lose purchasing power every year. I don’t expect America to get any better for the rest of my life.
