Households in New England paid electricity prices last month that were 47 percent higher than the national average..
Consumer energy information released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for its Boston region showed the area's households paid an average of 19.5 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity, compared to the national average of 13.3 cents. The region includes Hampden and Worcester counties as well as Greater Boston and parts of New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine.
The figures came out one day after energy utility Eversource proposed a 10 percent increase in its electricity distribution rates beginning early next year.
The new rates would mean an increase of about $11.64 on the average monthly bill for someone who uses 550 kilowatt hours of electricity a month.

High energy prices here have been blamed on a lack of power generation in the region and the high cost of bringing in natural gas to fire generating stations.

That is what happens when the NIMBYs get their way. Pipelines to bring fracked natural gas to NE have been thwarted by the usual suspects and methods.
More wind turbines and solar panels in neighboring states should solve this problem for them.

I live in NH and my avg monthly bill has jumped over 40% in the past 18 months.
Wife and I have been looking for some good land in central Florida ... had enough of the cold, snow, ice, high property taxes, high energy $$$, etc...
It’s going to get worse, and much more expensive.
One third of our NE electric generating capacity (10,000MW of 31,000MW) is slated to be retired in the next five years. We’re fighting to get the Northern Pass project built (transmission line project to bring energy from Hydro-Quebec) and that will replace only 10% of what we’re slated to lose.
We have Eversource, and our bill has gone up about 85% from previous year - same KW usage. We now pay $400 per month for electricity! When we built home in 2003 we paid on average $80 in winter months and about $150 in the summer with central air.

have hurricanes, tornadoes, heat and humidity .

It’s 80 in Texas today so that throws off the national average. We’ve had the windows open most days.

I need to get past this iron curtain surrounding New England over to some greener pastures. The CT government constantly has their hand in my wallet. If not the government it’s the burdensome regulations imposed by them that force businesses to charge you more.
We live in NE PA and our cost of electrical generation is under 7 cents a kilowatt hour. Transmission costs and taxes make up almost another 7 cents, but we certainly benefit from Marcellus Shale nat gas!

WV is working on multiple piiplines to get gas out of here to markets.
I hope under Trump it will be easier.
