(CNN)President Donald Trump wants to pass an immigration reform bill that could grant legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants living in the US.
"The time is right for an immigration bill as long as there is compromise on both sides," Trump told reporters Tuesday at the White House.
The President is eager to pass a compromise immigration bill in his first term that would stop short of granting a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants, but would allow undocumented immigrants who aren't serious or violent criminals to live, work and pay taxes in the US without fear of deportation, a senior administration official said. And Trump is now considering adding the topic to his speech Tuesday night before his address to a joint session of Congress.
A path to citizenship for those in the country illegally would not be part of Trump's vision for this deal, with the possible exception of "Dreamers" -- those brought into the US illegally as children.
News of the President's support for a comprehensive reform of the US's immigration system fell against a backdrop of increasingly aggressive actions by immigration authorities across the US, who under Trump's administration have found new freedom to deport undocumented immigrants who have not been convicted of a serious crime -- the bar they were told to abide by under President Barack Obama's tenure.

Actually, the “dreamers” were born in Mexico and Central America, not the U.S.A., but were brought here as infants or young children by their illegal alien parents.
That’s how I understand the issue....they were not born on American soil, correct?

Boy that was great.
Your posts are usually shorter.
I wish I would have written that :)
Maybe you should be his adviser!

Trump was clear in his 60 minutes interview... we will have to wrk something out with the dreamers. He didn’t stutter or slur. Amnesty. I bet his amnesty comes before the wall!

Thanks!
As far as being an advisor, I’d work for free! He could use me to gather responses of his base on multiple platforms to let him know how things are going.

Trump has managed to stay at near 50% approval so far, despite the RELENTLESS ATTACKS from the left and the media.
So, who exactly, does Trump think is keeping him this high? If he double-crosses us on Amnesty, then his ENTIRE SUPPORT BASE IS GONE - and he’ll be lucky to still be in office in 2 months, as the Dems will close in for the kill and NO ONE on our side will be defending him.
HE IS PLAYING WITH FIRE on this issue. It is way too early to be talking this crap, when virtually none of the other reforms have even been attempted.

Actually, Governor Perry (R-TX) went to grade school with kids of "illegals". That was a long time ago and is an example of how long this has been going on. Texas and Oklahoma had plenty of the Mexican labor class here for farm work. Mostly they were far and away Catholic, kept to their church and community, which were shanties and the women sold townspeople tamales, or worked in homes, although house maids were not then prevalent in farm communities. They were young and strong enough to start families here. What happened under Obama was not about labor, but Marxism and socialism of South America. (See the movie For Greater Glory for a sympathetic view of Mexicans fighting communists there, in 1928.) The Christeros. By 1940, there fine children were coming across. My tagline is from that movie. I am not Hispanic, btw. German, English and Scotch.😐

Trump amnesty plan exposed by Gen. Kelly I see no "plan" outlined at your link.
And hearsay straight from Terry McAuliffe isn't exactly what I'd call "reliable."

True, but at this point I have much more faith in Trump than I do in your analytical abilities.

Time will tell...as it was, any other Republican would have already signed the Gang-of-Eight bill by now, so certainly no worse.
