IF Trump gives them legal status without a path to citizenship, I hope he realizes that the next time the Democrats get power, they will immediately vote to make these people citizens for the votes.
Also, while there are certain people we would feel compassion for, would this extend to all non criminals? How long would they have had to be here for? A year before the bill? Five years? A day?
I think he needs to work on implementing e-verify, cutting off benefits for those here illegally, and defunding sanctuary cities. Some people will self-deport. They won't if a path to legalization is on the table.
Remove the illegal ones like Obama.
The big target is anchor babies and chain migration. If legalization increases the prospective load of future legalized invaders, it’s not good. If it only deals with pre-existing DACA cases, but cuts off further access, that’s different.
I don’t know if he recognizes this, or has any grand plan.
Trump will torpedo his Presidency and the Republic if he does this.
If he does this, he’ll not only having snowflakes screaming for his head, Americans will be after it too.
Americans lose again if true. No tax cuts, no healthcare repeal, no border, but we get to keep and pay for our 40 million illegal friends.
This sounds like the other immigration reform proposals. None of this is supposed to occur until our border is secure with a wall.

Agreed. He may be throwing this into the pot to get tax cuts and healthcare approved. To to offer this before Americans get anything is absurd.

i would go after the criminal ones first. I had an aunt previously years ago who was ILLEGALLY HERE but she did pay her taxes from her ITIN. She then decided to bite the bullet and apply for citizenship which she did successfully. The simple reason was because she was just tired of hiding.

If they return to their home country and reapply, ok. Otherwise he’s breaking his signature campaign promise.

Of course criminals go first, and congrats on the aunt.
But, we’ve seen that second generation aliens often assimilate more poorly than the parents, in both Muslim and Mexican communities. Something has to be done about that, or it will be a long term problem.
I’ll wait and see what really happens before I make any judgements.....
Well, they would have to do that for citizenship. This article indicates they would just get legal status. You and I both know as soon as the Democrats regain power that that they will gleefully give them citizenship, and the vast majority will vote Democrat.
Just a variation on what he has been saying for months. President Trump is just trying to triangulated the Dems. Let’s see if they take the bait.
