The city should stop making arrests for minor offenses like fare beating to avoid setting more people up for deportation, a city lawmaker and legal aid groups said Tuesday. Under President Trump’s new hardline immigration policies, an undocumented immigrant becomes a priority for deportation if charged with any criminal offense. And people who get arrested have their fingerprints sent to the feds.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents have even been waiting outside Manhattan misdemeanor arraignment courts in recent days to nab people after their court appearances, according to New York County Defender Services

I thought only illegal alien felons were being targeted? I find it hard to believe we have the resources to chase down aliens who commit misdemeanors.
Potentially very misleading. In some court systems, criminal defendants enter their pleas of “ not guilty” or “guilty” or enter a plea deal in the court that handles misdemeanors. Even though the actual trial will be heard in the Superior Court (NY calls it the Supreme Court, just to confuse people).
So misdemeanor court could be a rich source of wanted felons.

If I were a citizen of NYC (a legal American), I would be sorely worried about a city administration that would prefer to let crimes go unaddressed solely on the potential that such would net an illegal alien that the Federal Government could ‘get’ and deport.
Just think about that. Willing to give up your rights, property and who knows what else to keep from possibly rounding up an illegal in the process. Outrageous.
So, we should no prosecute illuegals for petty crime but legal citizens should be?

The DemocRat politicians want power so badly they are will to ignore law enforcement in order to increase their voter base. They are willing to let 35 y/o male perverts in the bathroom with my beautiful 11 y/o granddaughter - not because they believe it is the right thing to do but because they need the pervert voter base. They need every misfit (felons, perverts, illegals, baby killlers, etc) because people that aren’t mentally ill won’t vote for their bull$h!t.

What they say is the illegal deserves special treatment more than you the citizen. So what is the point of being a citizen anymore? The mayor has basically gotten rid of broken windows - unless the sloppy homeless living on the sidewalks are now considered an art exhibit.
The biggest and most important enablers of illegal immigration are the Republican leadership. The Democrats are certainly happy to get the voters, but it’s Congress’ resistance to Trump, led by Ryan and McConnell, that is messing things up.
Both of those poltroons should be run out of their respective states on a rail.
