This is an article with some advice on how to maintain your digital privacy when traveling internationally to countries that will invade those devices seeking data. . . including returning to the U.S.

They suggested that, except even easier. Use a second factor and mail that home before you come home. That way you have no way to unlock your computer.

Install Linux with no GUI. When requested, boot up to the command prompt and say: “OK, it’s all yours!”

For years, when traveling abroad, I have used a cheap notebook.
All that is on there is data I will need when traveling. If they want to access it, then nothing personal is there for then to snoop.
Additionally, I don’t take my cell phone with me.
I breeze through customs.
I was asked about having a cell phone a couple years back and simply stated I do not travel with one.
ROTFLMAO. You do realize, that more than half the people reading this have no idea whatsoever, what in the hell is a "GUI?"
For those people, GUI = Graphical User Interface, i.e., if you're using Windows and or a Mac, your using a "GUI."
Well, you never know.
Suppose the customs agent typed in:
cd /
find . “*.jpg” | grep girl > /tmp/dirtypictures.txt
“Sir, did you used to be a Unix SA before you joined the US Customs?”
That's one way of getting it there. Might be a good idea. . . or putting it in your check through baggage if you can trust the baggage handlers. Lotsa luck with that.
