What if — and it's a crazy thought, I know, but stay with me — what if it actually isn't a good idea to allow nearly everyone to buy all the guns they want with minimal to nonexistent background checks?

What if it's not just poverty, joblessness, illegal drugs, wimpy judges and fractured families causing the sort of mayhem that recently saw three kids die of bullet wounds in just two days in Chicago? What if the glut of guns is a part of it?

What if we kept convicted felons, illegal aliens, legal immigrants who are not citizens, dead people, and cartoon characters from voting?

The Tribune’s idea would violate our most basic constitutional rights, while mine would protect the integrity of a basic right. It’s obvious which of the two proposals the Ctrl-Left would support. They like fraud, and they like having power over disarmed workers (in their fantasies, their future slaves).

There are two types of gun owners, group #1 is encompasses the vast majority of law abiding gun owners in the nation. #2 contains the criminals and criminally inclined.

You can’t keep heaping new laws/restrictions on group #1 in hopes of group #2 modifies its behavior.
