The Leakers Who Exposed Gen. Flynn’s Lie Committed Serious — and Wholly Justified — Felonies
The Intercept ^ | 02/14/17 | Glenn Greenwald

Posted on 02/15/2017 11:27:55 AM PST by Enlightened1

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S NATIONAL security adviser, Gen. Michael Flynn, was forced to resign on Monday night as a result of getting caught lying about whether he discussed sanctions in a December telephone call with a Russian diplomat. The only reason the public learned about Flynn’s lie is because someone inside the U.S. government violated the criminal law by leaking the contents of Flynn’s intercepted communications.

In the spectrum of crimes involving the leaking of classified information, publicly revealing the contents of SIGINT — signals intelligence — is one of the most serious felonies. Journalists (and all other nongovernmental citizens) can be prosecuted under federal law for disclosing classified information only under the narrowest circumstances; reflecting how serious SIGINT is considered to be, one of those circumstances includes leaking the contents of intercepted communications, as defined this way by 18 § 798 of the U.S. Code:

Whoever knowingly and willfully communicates … or otherwise makes available to an unauthorized person, or publishes … any classified information … obtained by the processes of communication intelligence from the communications of any foreign government … shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

For the record Flynn did not lie... He "INADVERTENTLY" brief Pence. Flynn did not violate the Logan Act, but did everything a typical incoming transitioning Administration does.

Hillary violated the Logan when she sold the Uranium to Russia.

The NSA has all communications. They burned Flynn's call privacy, but let Pedo Podesta operate for 8+ years. Why?

The leaking of the material is a crime.

Someone has to do the time.

I don’t believe this information should have been released to the press.

Its amazing how the “rule of law” all a sudden is soooo important to Democrats after 8 yrs of a crime spree.

Of course, the crime of illegal immigration is still a mockery...

Trump, take CHARGE NOW. Off with their heads!

I’ll take Benghazi for $400. Yes, how about the woman that got a promotion after lying to the American people? If she had been a republican, she would have been fired and crucified on the Modern Satanic News Banning Christ.

Trump can help himself here.

Use his bully pulpit to warn

1) The leakers. US Democracy will not allow a secret, shadow government with their own agenda (use those words) to exist in the bureaucracy. Political leakers will be punished

2) For those of you who work inside these agencies - if you value the reputation and work of your agency, you will guard against those who would destroy it by abusing the vast power of their information.

The Logan act has never been enforced, except for one indictment that was never pursued. There have been a dozen or more (probably quite a few more) instances of the Logan Act being violated that were totally ignored over the years, except for now because they are looking for every reason to take down Trump. I will say though that Glen Greenwald, a consummate lib, has been surprisingly somewhat objective in many of his articles of late. I attribute that to the fact that he’s antiwar, distrusted Hillary, and wouldn’t mind at all if Trump managed to keep us out of another incredibly expensive mideast war that garnered no advantage to us. Unlike most libs he’s fairly intelligent, though his fellow libs seem to be ignoring him lately. No surprise there.

(from the article) :" someone inside the U.S. government violated the criminal law by leaking the contents of Flynn’s intercepted communications. "

Has anyone seen a transcript of the alleged conversation ?
Absent a transcript, it is nothing short of a rumor, nothing more.
Hypothetically, he could have been asking Sergi how his golf game was going

Don't forget that this is the same party of Harry Reid,
who once lied about Romney not paying taxes.
Harry knew it was a lie, but that rumor help to kill a Romney candidacy .

Not sure if he lied or as an old guy, left things out. But either way its ok to let him go, we have other generals to pick from. What bothers me is that someone listens to the calls and decides to send it to the press. Not the President.

I really hate that. Since the VP or the President were not told the truth, I would think they were the harmed party. Sending the info to the press is not to right a wrong. Its to make the administration look bad. With national security as collateral damage. I think our spooks are not on our side. I dislike our spooks having a relationship with our press. Thats getting too close to the Chinese way of doing things.

He didn’t lie at all, to any degree. He spoke with Pence and gave an working overview of the discussions. Pence who opposes everything Flynn hoped to accomplish ran to the press and spoke in absolute specifics that were not true.

Now Flynn is gone and the Pence GOPe, new cold war with Russia, remove Assad wing of the party was strengthened. Maybe you need to cut the crap. Or show us a transcript of the Flynn conversations with the Russian ambassador, and then with Pence.
Bottom line, without hard transcripts, Flynn is more trustworthy than Pence.

For national security’s sake, people in the government lie all the time. Hillary talked about the difference between back room talk and what the public hears, and do we get a verbatim report of what leaders and bureaucrats talk about in public, in particular in diplomacy?

What’s more, this is all about the false narrative that Russia influenced the election, helping Trump to “steal” it.

Same thing with Comey’s announcement, which supposedly swayed all sorts of people away from Hillary. I actually read an article from the Huffington Post or someplace like it which said that Trump didn’t have to deal with such damaging information in the fall as Hillary did with the Comey letter. An amazing statement given that like clockwork there was that October surprise for Trump. But the media wasn’t on the nightly news wondering why that tape NBC had control of didn’t show up until October and crying foul over it, even though the people who knew of that interview certainly remembered it and were likely the left-wing sort of people who wanted to use it. The left could have used that tape when Hillary and Trump were talking about how Trump and Bill Clinton had treated women. Trump had to face his own party, and even own running mate, practically abandoning him. For the left, winning this war, which is what is truly is, justifies using any means necessary.

So who knows if the sanctions were even justified. I highly doubt it. And I don’t take any reporting on this whole Russian matter at face value. Russia’s become the big boogieman while China is gaining more influence in our country all the time. Putin kills journalists. Well how about what the communist Chinese have done? Killing students and certainly journalists and others since then.

And finally, what did Attorney General Lynch and Bill Clinton discuss on the tarmac?

“if you value the reputation and work of your agency, you will guard against those who would destroy it by abusing the vast power of their information.”

Their work and their reputation means nothing to them. They want one thing only, to wield power. And when they wield illegal power and get away with it, that spreads fear.
And that is the only work or reputation they care about.

Its the very definition of a police state.

Sedition: "conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch." What about that definition is Obama not doing?

Treason: "the crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government."

18 U.S. Code Chapter 115 - TREASON, SEDITION, AND SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES The Law. From what I could discern, Obama is skating on thin ice right now.

Regarding Shadow Government, each one of these from 18 U.S. Code Chapter 115 may apply:

§ 2381 - Treason

§ 2382 - Misprision of treason

§ 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection

§ 2384 - Seditious conspiracy

§ 2385 - Advocating overthrow of Government

§ 2386 - Registration of certain organizations

§ 2387 - Activities affecting armed forces generally

§ 2388 - Activities affecting armed forces during war

§ 2389 - Recruiting for service against United States

§ 2390 - Enlistment to serve against United States

Just like with Hillary, lots of potential charges. If they find factual evidence of Sedition or Treason, then arrest Obama and his cronies.

he had a conversation BEFORE he worked in the Trump administration.

He was expressing OPINION at the time

Did he lie to Pend? Or just not remember- I sure as hell don’t remember everything I sad about phone conversations weeks ago.

I am pissed that Trump and Pence let the media railroad Flynn, and why they didn’t IMMEDIATELY announce they were searching for the leakers.

Flynn ‘gets it’ on the muzzie invasion.

Yes, the left considers this a war, and “all’s fair in love and war.”

We see things so differently there isn’t common ground anymore.

The left will do just about anything to protect its leaders, including defending them no matter how guilty some of them may be.

And they have also determined to “resist” Republicans at every step, in every way, sabotaging, undermining and “throwing sand in the gears” (as I believe one of them said) as much as they can. It’s now all politics to them, so there’s no reason to believe them on anything.

Apparently, he misled the VP. Trump had to choose between the two, but I’m not fond of the “I can’t recall” response on issues of import that I’m fairly sure a person would recall. If you ask me “Did you eat at McDonalds on 24 August 2014?”, I’d honestly say that I couldn’t recall. If you asked me, “Have you ever eaten at McDonalds?”, it would be a no brainer.

Have you ever discussed sanctions with a Russian representative? The right answer is yes or possibly. No brainer.
