Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he has "serious concerns" about Judge Neil Gorsuch after meeting with the Supreme Court nominee on Tuesday — and struggling to get straight answers from him.
"The judge avoided answers like the plague. This president is testing fundamental underpinnings of our democracy and its institutions. These times deserve answers and judge Gorsuch did not provide them. I have serious, serious concerns about this nominee," Schumer told reporters during Democrats' weekly press conference.
Schumer said he'd asked Gorsuch specifically about whether a ban on Muslims entering the country would pass constitutional muster and what his view was on the emoluments clause of the Constitution — a conflicts-of-interest clause Democrats say President Trump violated because of his refusal to fully divest from his businesses when he became President.
"I asked him about the emoluments clause and he refused to even say what the framers thought about that clause," Schumer complained.
The Democratic leader didn't fully close the door on voting for Gorsuch, but the comments were the latest indication that he's ready to dig in his heels and battle the nomination.
And while Schumer said the nomniee is "clearly a very smart, polite and capable man who loves being a judge," he warned that his nomination "comes at a perilous time in the relationship between the executive and judicial branches."

I hear Gorsuch issued a statement saying he had “serious concerns” about Schmucky’s sanity after meeting with him!
I think Schumer refused to meet with him first. Why did he decide later?
I guess Chucky didn’t hear President Trump when the president said he was donating all profits from his foreign business ventures to the U.S. Treasury.
God forbid we should have a successful businessman run for president instead of career politicians like Obama who never worked a day in the private sector in his life. Or pointed headed academicians who bring nothing to the table.
In other words, Schumer gave Gorsuch a ringing endorsement.
Since anyone that Schumer would support is someone who should NOT be anywhere near a court, the fact that Schumer refuses to support Gorsuch means he is *highly* qualified.

Thomas Jefferson owned and ran a farm while serving as President. Other presidents have owned businesses besides Trump. Obama did actually have a private sector job for a short while, but in his book he described it as being “behind enemy lines”. Being a Marxist (despite the desperate denials of his voters), he considers capitalism to be the enemy—even though it’s America’s bread and butter. He thought he could remake us into the world’s first successful socialism, where no one owns a private business. All socialists and Marxists suffer from this delusion, and end up leaving a smoking hell hole in place of a once thriving economy.
The Democrats are in big trouble.
Schumer has inherited the mantle of de facto leader of the Democrat party and it is an ill-fitting yoke.
He has to run his Party AND defend 23 FREAKING seats in 2018 ... while we defend 8. FUCK SCHUMER 23 SEATS!
We will pick up 5 FIVE of those red state Senate seats even if Trump nukes PyongPaddle and eats a kitten on live cable.
Even so, we need to understand two things: Prosecute the win. Drive up the score.
