The eruption of hostilities between President-elect Donald Trump and civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) may be recorded as just one more example of what has become standard Twitter retaliation for Trump.
But coming on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, it also reignited the passions around Trumps difficult history with African Americans, the group of voters from whom he might be most alienated as he prepares to move into the White House this week.
In an interview with NBCs Meet the Press on Friday, Lewis said he did not regard Trump to be a legitimate president because of allegations that high-level Russian operatives interfered in the election on Trumps behalf. Trump lobbed back with a tweet in the early hours of Saturday morning that disparaged both the congressman and his district, which includes some of Atlantas most affluent neighborhoods.
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart, Trump wrote. (Not to . . . in fact, he needed two tweets to finish the thought mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk no action or results. Sad!

Lewis is just one more example of the do-nothing-but-collect-a-check representative in a black district who have the gig for life, like Papa Doc Duvalier.
No, it doesn't. It simply echoes the stupidity of a detached career politician in Congress who decided to criticize Trump by letting his mouth write a check that his @ss can't cash.
There was nothing long and difficult about any relationship here. Trump probably didn't even know who John Lewis was before Lewis opened his big mouth, and he probably forgot who Lewis is 30 seconds after he broadcast his Twitter message yesterday.
Vanessa Williams?! I’m so disappointed.
No difficulty, if one simply gives in to every demand of African Americans.
“civil rights icon” — Drink!
Race-bait is right. The whole thing was a setup right before MLK day. Lewis knew Trump would take the bait and then they could make it into some phony race issue.
Lewis is a race-monger - made a career of race-mongering. Keep Hate Alive
We have brought into our midst, from the beginning, a hostile and resentful race. Whites love to pretend all is love and sweetness and that hand in hand we shall dance with the black over sun drenched flower strewn fields. Reality dictates the coming of a brutal Social War.
I hope we are all seeing how the media plays the game of creating fake news and controversy. An exchange between Lewis and Trump which Lewis started with I would say a dangerous statement is twisted into a race based story. Amazing fake news.
The problem with Lewis and that whole bunch is that equality is not enough, they expect special treatment, and if they don't get what they want, then "you're a racist".
Can you link or tell me where to find this story that “he shares” women with hip-hop friends? Thanks.

Janell Ross and Vanessa Williams think the ONLY people who have the right to feel wronged are liberals and their pet victim groups. If liberals stood us up aainst a wall and shot us Janell Ross and Vanessa Williams would feel sorry for the liberals because their trigger fingers might be hurt.
As far as I can tell Lewis is the only one shooting off his mouth. It takes two to make a feud. I say Trump should not take the bait, and just not say anything about him personally.
I agree and these feuds are fueled by Democrats insistence upon lying such as John Lewis lying and saying the TEA party spit on him and called him the N word. Someone should get Democrats to tell the truth and there would be peace.

Thanks for the link! Looks real enough to me. The only problem with Google Books (and try reading medieval texts on it!) is that it is annoying, hard to navigate and difficult to read. Oh, well, The Donald certainly sowed his oats...I’d still vote for him in a heartbeat.
You’re welcome.
I find the part where it says if Clinton is the first black President, as per Toni Morrison, then Trump is analogously the first black billionaire to be quite interesting.
Oh how the narrative has changed!
It’s scary how the media can manipulate perception so much.
I am so sick of the words Russia and racist that I can’t even watch news anymore. None of it
I thought I heard that Trump met with MLK’s grandson this weekend. Was that mentioned in the article?
WaCompost, Lewis, Democrats: All race-baiting, all the time.
Fake news. Trump does not have a difficult history with African Americans.
