Protests In Mexico Push Country To Brink Of Revolution And Nobody's Talking About It

Long-simmering social tensions in Mexico are threatening to boil over as failing neoliberal reforms to the country’s formerly nationalized gas sector are compounded by open corruption, stagnant standards of living, and rampant inflation.

The U.S. media has remained mostly mute on the situation in Mexico, even as the unfolding civil unrest has closed the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego, California, several times in the past week. Ongoing “gasolinazo” protests in Mexico over a 20 percent rise is gas prices have led to over 400 arrests, 250 looted stores, and six deaths. Roads are being blockaded, borders closed, and government buildings are being sacked. Protests have remained relatively peaceful overall, except for several isolated violent acts, which activists have blamed on government infiltrators.

The few mainstream news reports that have covered the situation blame rising gas prices but fail to examine several other factors that are pushing Mexico to the brink of revolution. ‘Narco-state’ corruption

The narco-state, or as Mexican activists say, “el narco-gobiero,” is a term used to describe the open corruption between the Mexican government and drug cartels. The narco-state has been in the headlines lately over the kidnapping and presumed murder of 43 Ayotzinapa students in Iguala, Guerrero, in 2014. This has been a source of continuous anti-government protests ever since.

Though the kidnappings remain officially unsolved, members of the Guerrero Unidos drug cartel have admitted to colluding with local police forces to silence the student activists. Twenty police officers have been arrested in association with the kidnapping. Former Iguala police chief Felipe Flores has been arrested and “accused of offenses including organized crime and

I think you underestimate just how bad things are going to get there.

Ping for something to keep an eye on.

Our open southern border has long served as a pressure relief valve for the growing turbulence, corruption, and lawlessness of the narco-government of Mexico. With the border closed, I’d expect Mexico to blow sky high. It’s way past due, could take a decade or more to stabilize, but it really needs to happen. Even though it’s possible that what replaces it is even worse, revolution is really the only hope for the impoverished Mexican people.

Of course, it will be Trump’s fault. < /sarc>

A wall helps, but obstacles must be covered by observation and fire. If Mexico descends into revolution, troops will have to build defenses in developed areas and effectively screen the undeveloped border in order to deter and defeat attempts to cross.

Hopefully when they build the wall, sensors will be placed so alert us to any and all tunnels between them and us.
I’ve read (here on FR) that cannons were being used to shoot
drugs into America along the border. For many years, planes have been used to drop “drug orders” into America from ???.

“as the Mexicans who do get to come here in the future treasure our nation instead of trash it.”

Yeah, right.

No, that’s not an outlandish idea.

The wall is going up, and those who come in the future will do so via the legal route. Those people generally do respect the nation and it’s ideals.

It’s the old adage, the things you get for free you seldom fully appreciate.

>You ever been to Mexico? Next time you go, watch closely...doesn’t matter where, Baja, Colima, Chiapas, Veracruz, San Luis Potosi. It doesn’t matter where you are in Mexico, it is blantantly obvious who the Indians are and it is not because their skin is darker.

What’s your point?

We will have a communist Mexico on our border with revanchist designs on what we took from them in the Mexican War of 1846.

Yeah, because "non-western" Communists aren't self-hating anti-nationalist pacifist wimps like ours are.

Why can't we ever get that kind of Commie???

What’s my point?

The point is, in the reality of mexico is that

“Most Latin America has long had a policy that everyone is equally Spanish and Indian. Anyone who agitates on the basis of skin color gets kicked to the curb.”

Is in reality the exact opposite of truth.

Which is precisely why in that case the only solution is US Occupation of Mexico.

Something I recommend forty years ago. Either we change them or they surely will change us. Press 1 for English.

And yet they come here waving Mexican flags, proclaiming their Mexican pride, putting down America, and completely clueless of the irony that Mexico is such a horrible country that they had to flee here to do all that.

We could save money by opening free clinics in Mexico.

Mexico has far more mineral wealth, even than we do....and their location on the planet, with two huge coastlines in warm climates that should make Mexico the #1 tourist mecca on the Earth...what’s holding them back?

You can say the same thing about most of South America. What they have in common is Spanish heritage.

Do you see dark skinned people agitating on skin color in Mexico? Are there white’s only clubs? The point of the policy is to create an image of single people without worry about that fact that different people perform in different manner.

In Thailand the more Chinese someone is generally the smarter and more successful they are. But the more Chinese Thai’s are not allowed to call themselves any more Chinese than the rest of the population. This prevents the type of racial strive we and others have to deal with all the time. Latin America has the same sort of policy of enforced color blindness.

Mexicans have a bit of a class system based on the color of your skin and look.
Most all on TV in Mexico are lighter skinned and prefer more Spanish looking people over any Indians.

I am married to someone born in Mexico with Indian features who gets mistaken Philipino all the time.
